Half a Moon: 14 Days of Celebrating Women

Welcome to HalfaMoon 2026! We're kicking things off with the theme of The Innocent.

Here are some ideas to get you started: When I think of the innocent, I think of someone untried by the world. Whether she is a young girl, testing things out for the first time, or maybe someone older enthusiastically venturing into a place or situation where she hasn't taken the time to think of the consequences of her actions. Is the innocent always the damsel in distress or does her lack of cynicism help her find a solution more easily?

Just go wherever the Muse takes you. If this prompt doesn't speak to you, feel free to share something that does. You can post in a separate entry or as a comment to this post.

Want to get a jump start on tomorrow's theme? Check out the prompt list in the pinned post at the top of the page. Please don't post until that day.

Please label your posts in the subject line by type (fiction, vid, recs, icons, etc.), fandom, and the names of your female character(s) and/or pairing. If you're writing for a particular day/theme, having that info in the subject line will be helpful to the mods. (Example: Day 1 - Fic - Star Trek - Nyota Uhura).

Posting for the HalfAMoon fest begins at midnight on February 1. I realize that it comes at different times for everyone, please don't wait for me to post the daily prompt to post for that day, or to post anything at all. I will be posting the daily prompt most days between 6 & 7 a.m. CST so if you want to jump in then, that's fine too.

Here's the handy FAQ/intro post for any questions you may have on what is appropriate for the fest. Info about OFCs & gender identity can be found there.

Please make sure your subject line has the following information- TYPE (Fic/Vid/Icons,etc.) - FANDOOM - FEMALE CHARACTER (for example: FIC - Game of Thrones - Sansa Stark). Fics of over 100 words, large graphics, or vids should go behind a cut if posting directly to the community. You can also just include a header with a link to the creation- please make sure that it's open to the public or you may not get as much feedback as you'd like.

Please be kind when commenting. Not every character/pairing is each person's cup of tea and that's as it should be, but no bashing a writer for their choices.

Above all, have fun. Show off your creativity in celebrating these wonderful women. Experiment. Rec wildly. Let us see your favorite characters in a new light or introduce us to some we haven't met yet.

Here's the theme list for this year's fest. Reminder- if the theme of the day isn't working for you and you want to post something else with a central woman character, by all means, do so. The list is here for ideas and inspiration, but no one should feel limited if their imagination goes another way.

That said, if you're posting for a particular theme- Don't post before the day and if you're playing catch up and posting on the 13th for "Guilty Pleasures" from the 2nd, just indicate Day 2 and the masterlist folks will make sure it gets listed for the correct day. And if you're wildly inspired by "The Innocent" and want to post on that for all 14 days, go for it (but make sure you reference Day 1).

What a great year we had for Half a Moon! Thank you all for your contributions that made this such a wondeful celebration of women in fandom. Special thanks go to sisterdivinium who had their half of the masterlist to me with frightening speed.
