This post marks the end of the 2026 HalfAMoon Fest. It has been a phenomenal year with around 150 individual posts in some diverse fandoms.

Whether you're a newcomer or a returning friend, whether you posted on one day or all fourteen, brought graphics, fics, vids, podcasts, meta, and recs or just came through and commented, thank you for making this a wonderful experience. Thanks also to everyone who promoted the community on their own pages.

I've got a few more comments to catch up on and the masterlist should be up hopefully by the end of the month. Special thanks to sisterdivinium with their help on this again this year.

If you have any thoughts on topics or ways to make next year's fest better, I welcome them in the comments. If you feel like this is something you would like to help out with next year, let me know that in the comments as well.

It has been incredible seeing your creations. Thank you for making the past fourteen days a great celebration of women! See you in February 2027!

The Divine and the Hero

Divine Victoria has not only the power and influence of her station, but the willingness to use it, and she's not afraid of hinting at her influence with the Inquisition. She always knew that she had an important job to do, and now she can bring the change that she knows it's necessary, that Divine Justinia only started, but she can go further.

The Hero of Ferelden could influence royalty and nobility even beyond Ferelden with just her word, and that's a power that she avoids using as much as possible these days. She united Ferelden against the Blight, making disparate groups fight side by side under her orders, and she was the hand that picked the fill for the throne, when the death of the king could have thrown them into chaos.

Leliana and Neria can't even get the one thing that they want. A peaceful place to live together, a life that is their own and no one else's, a chance to be happy together after so many years of helping others. They can't have that, not without betraying who they are, so all that they can take for themselves are a few stolen moments in the shadows.

The TARDIS appears slowly, and with a bit of stabilisation with the sonic screwdriver, she's finally there in front of her. The Doctor always changes, circumstances change, but this stays the same, the TARDIS is her home and her sanctuary, the one place where she can feel safe in, the one friend she has never been forced to leave behind, not for long anyway.

The Doctor in the TARDIS, that's where she belongs, and the Doctor has never been so glad to see her.

She wants this, she wants this life where adventure is always happening, she wants to know things about the universe that she was never taught, she wants to explore. And she'll take matters into her own hands.

Leliana knows that she should be embarrassed, but mostly she just wants to laugh. Despite all the care that she and Neria took, they were still caught in a compromising position, and even if the guard in question seemed pretty embarrassed, she doubts that he's going to keep it a secret.

“I don't suppose that this will help with all those wild rumors,” Neria says, and that's the final drop that Leliana needs to burst out laughing.

There's plenty of things that people should be embarrassed about, but even as Divine, Leliana would never count love as one of them.

Passion in the field

Bellara's eyes light up as she talks of the new device she created, how she used the devices of the ancient elves to do something completely different from what it was originally intended to do.

“And this here is the stabilization field?” Rook asks, pointing at the device as she tries to follow the explanation.

She's not such an incompetent mage that she hasn't built magical devices for herself, but never anything even close to this, and she doubts that there's anyone else who could do these things as well as Bellara. Bellara isn't just an expert in their ancestors and their magic, she's brilliant, and she's always thinking of the most amazing things.

“Not quite, it resonates with the field, to help maintain the barrier. The components that form the field are only exposed when the device is in motion,” Bellara says, activating the device to demonstrate.

In truth, Rook doesn't care all that much about it, and she's not even sure if she completely understands what this does, let alone how it works. But it doesn't matter, she's just charmed by the passion that Bellara shows towards her experiments. She could spend all day just listening to her.

Diplomatic incidents

Josephine feels the start of a stress headache as she rips all the unacceptable letters that the Inquisitor gave her. Maybe she should have known better than to expect that the Inquisitor of all people would be able to reply to their potential allies with the necessary diplomatic finesse.

Just once, she wished that anyone there, but especially the Inquisitor would make her job easier rather than harder, but the Inquisitor seems to make a habit out of creating incidents, and she doesn't measure her words, not even when facing important nobles. It seems that around half of Josephine's time is spent putting out whatever fires the Inquisitor started that day, but even for the Inquisitor these last few letters are a disaster. If Josephine let even just one of those get out, they would be losing some much needed support and likely quite a few resources that they are searching for.

Josephine takes some fresh paper and starts writing the replies herself, mimicking the Inquisitor's scratchy handwriting, and just leaving a space below blank to get her signature later. At some point, it's just easier to do these things herself, rather than trying to get the Inquisitor to behave.

Summary: Being romantic in her serial is easier than doing so in her life. Or, Bellara really doesn't want Rook to read into the story that she's writing.

Romance serial

Bellara hastily hides the pages that she has been working on as soon as Rook walks in, since that's the one person that she doesn't want reading her writing, at least not yet.

Her serial isn't based on anything from her life, but Rook might think that there are some similarities between her and Bellara's main character, but only because of how heroic they are. The romantic interest though has nothing to do with Bellara, even if she is an elven scholar.

“That's not very fair, I heard you book club talking about it, why can't I just take a pick?” Rook says, leaning forward, although Bellara is covering the pages well enough that she shouldn't say anything. “Neve said that I would find it very interesting.”

Bellara feels her cheeks starting to heat. She'd have to have some words with Neve about this later. Especially because Neve keeps insisting, entirely without reason, that the serial reads like it's about Bellara and Rook fighting the gods, which doesn't even make sense because the villains of the serial are a king and his sister who are exploiting their people.

“It's not good enough yet, I'll show you once it's done,” Bellara says, although she's thinking of actually never showing it to her, just in case Rook gets the wrong idea.

“Of course it's good enough, you wrote it,” Rook says with a charming smile. “But if you insist I'll wait until you're ready.”

Bellara sighs in relief. This whole business of romance is a lot easier in the serials than it is in her own life, and she doesn't want to distract from the important mission that they're on with her feelings. Although, now that she thinks of it, this conversation with Rook just gave her the idea for another chapter.

Neve watches as Rana takes Aelia away, wondering if she made a huge mistake.

She has every reason not to believe in the system, not to trust that the Templars, even one with as good intentions as Rana, to be able to stop someone like Aelia, but the alternative is throwing away everything that she has always believed in.

Stopping Aelia is important, but not at any cost, and Rook has a point, she has to be someone that can inspire Dock Town to be better. Neve will stop her, but she won't compromise her own morals to do that.

The thing that's so backwards about all of this is, the Shadow Dragons are the ones who are outlaws, they are the ones who are breaking the rules, and there are plenty of people in Tevinter, and not just among the Magisters and their families, who think that they are in the wrong.

Rook knows that plenty of people back at her childhood home, the then children who were friends with her siblings but never with her and their parents who spoke of her parents behind their backs, would be horrified at what she does. It's part of the reason why even before Varric started calling her Rook she had all but abandoned her name, and only a few people among the Shadow Dragons even know to call her Mercar. She's the criminal, invading people's homes and taking what they believe is theirs.

She wonders sometimes what her family would think of this, and is terrified of the answer. Not enslaving people, even being generally against the practice, isn't the same as fighting against slavery, not caring who she might anger in the process. The people she's angering are some of the same ones her parents depend on for their business, and she doesn't want to test their morals to that degree. It's already disappointing enough, knowing that most Shadow Dragons believe that there is value in keeping the peace and being careful, even if that means waiting longer to help people.

Rook could never be this way. If that means that she's not welcome with the Shadow Dragons, that she can no longer see her family without putting them at risk, none of that matters. She knows what's the right thing to do, and if the law refuses to change to meet that, then she'll change things by force.

With her

Neria is, by necessity, an expert at hiding and moving without being noticed. She has been keeping herself out of sight for years, wanting to find a cure for the taint rather than be embroiled in the political problems around them, and although she has helped others where she could, she doesn't want to be a leader anymore.

She was so young when all of this started, and even before she didn't have her life as her own. She can't stand to be just a symbol, she needs something more than that.

“Skyhold is surprisingly hard to infiltrate, should I commend you?” she says, not having any illusion that Leliana wouldn't notice her there.

Neria might be an expert at hiding, but much of what she knows, she learned from Leliana.

“Not too hard, I'm the only one who noticed you came here,” Leliana says, approaching her slowly.

Neria can't hold the pretence anymore, she runs towards Leliana, nearly jumping to her arms. After this long away, she needs to hold her wife, and enjoy the few moments that they might have together before she has to leave again.

“I missed you so much,” she says, burying her face on Leliana's shoulder.

There's nothing that Neria can't face, no challenge that she can't get past, as long as she can have this. She needs Leliana by her side, if not every day, then as often as she can have her. That's all that she needs to be able to do everything that is asked of her.

A/N: For the record, I hated how "The Big Bang Theory" handled pregnancies. Bernadette was adamant about not having kids, but that seemed to get swept under the rug once her pregnancy was revealed. Penny was the same way, but the show gave her a pregnancy storyline in the very last show of the series. Why? Couldn't she just been a happy woman without kids? So, I got down off my soapbox and wrote an initial reaction for her that seemed to fit with the theme of today.

Author's Notes: I upped the rating for this fic, mostly out of ample precaution. It is mostly fade to black, there isn't any actual smut, but still. Also, I will finish this fic, despite my little (much needed) hiatus. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to write the 4 chapters I'm still missing today and tomorrow and then post all the remaining chapters tomorrow by Halfamoon's deadline, but I'll try.

Reccer's Notes: For Heather, I wanted "letting go" to be the closure to be her story the way the show couldn't give us (and from the female perspective - not some male intern talking to a dude while another dude listened in, because ... really.) This fic is a character study that follows Heather from the age of 7 to when she goes to Portland again after Season 1. It is a series of "letting go," aka - having is not so pleasant as wanting while Heather learns to let go of disappointments. And in the end, when you get what you actually need (and wanted), all those losses were worth the struggle.
