Title: Waking Up
Fandom: Disney (Sleeping Beauty & Mulan)
Characters: Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) & Mulan
Rating: G
Summary: The true love of friendship works just as well as anything else
A/N: I loved "Sleeping Beauty" as a kid and still enjoy it as an adult, but in trying to find a fit for this prompt, I realized that Aurora doesn't do a whole lot on her own. She's the very definition of innocent. So I found her a friendly counterpart who was the opposite of that. Please ignore any imagined time differential between the two worlds and just let it happen.
Aurora opened her eyes. Standing above her was someone she hadn't seen since she was a girl and had wandered away from her doting godmothers for a while. “Mulan?”
The other girl grinned at her. “The Emperor sent me.”
“For me?”
“For your father actually. He had sent many letters to King Stefan with no response so he sent me to investigate.”
“You work for the Emperor?”
“I'm a member of the Imperial Guard.”
“Silly Mulan. Girls don't fight.”
“Girls can do anything we put our minds to.”
“Yes. We can sew and cook and dance and sing and marry well.”
“You sound like my mother.”
“Did you happen to see a young man as you came in?”
“There was one. Kind enough to cut a hole in the thorns surrounding the castle for me. I think he was distracted when I shot an arrow into the dragon that was going to set him on fire. He'll be along shortly.”
“He couldn't even kill a dragon himself?”
“Nope.”
“Mulan?”
“Yes, Aurora?”
“Can you teach me how to shoot a bow and arrow?”
“It would be my pleasure.”
