It has been a blast reading everyone's entries.

For Return
unrelatedly: I was working on this the whole time, ironically, and made a fanmix that is specifically all the Jessica-POV songs from my aforementioned Reaper Jess/Jessica Lives/is reborn 'verse... I wanted to have time to make it on YouTube as well as Spotify but I didn't, and maybe I'll work on that before the end of the month.

Here it is on Spotify, at least, and I hope people who can access it enjoy it!
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Zncfge3FrRIovrfk1q2kE

And finally a link to the 'verse in question (starts with Sam-POV but has lots of Jessica-POV in it):
Reconcilliation (Reaper Jessica Moore)
Notes: Various levels of slow burn, polyamory (not the prettiest polyamory you've ever seen but they make it work), mind the ships, it's all slow burn.

And for Goodbye I almost forgot my Mary Lives AU (beginning in pre-series).
Notes: Mentions of domestic violence, Mary raises Sam and Dean, involves the Campbell family and the Special Children and a few OCs. There is disability content and queer gen.

You can read the first fic and stop, or continue to find out what happened after it. :)

Whoo boy. This is quite a day. So I wasn't sure I would be able to post today. Then I simultaneously got two bunnies. They are short, and honestly not as fleshed out as I would have done if today wasn't a bit extra in general.

I wrote two fics because one involves anthropomorphizing. It's very very important in our fandom (like Kit in Knight Rider) but I wanted to be totally fair at the same time, even though I'm watching Transformers a lot right now as well and planning a fic for a young fan... Okay so without further ado I'm back to Supernatural... for now. :P

For Arts and Entertainment at [livejournal.com profile] 14valentines

The television world is run by male executives looking at the bottom line with barely any room outside of their nice neat little boxes of what makes successful tv. Mainstream media shows tend to have majority male casts and the Bechdel test is something that you usually hope your show passes once in a while let alone individual episodes. Female characters are often dropped or maligned for "plot" reasons, the expendable characters in favor of their male counterparts.

Fan creations often keep these characters alive, or even reinvent the text. Today I have vid recs for friged or vilified female characters. Some of these are old, some of them are fandom classics, but all of them are worth watching, and if you'd like to give me you're own recs, I'd love to have them.

Note: Some of the links are download only. Right click, save as, and if you don't want to keep them, just delete them afterward.

Supernatural
-- Supernatural has arguably one of the worst track records of keeping women alive on the show and its treatment of female characters in general. The first two vids are about the show as a whole and are criticisms of the text and how fans as a whole continue the denigration of women.

The third vid is about Jess, Sam's girlfriend whose death serves as the source of manpain for Sam through the first season, sacrificed in classic have-to-get-the main-character-to-do-something style.

Stargate Atlantis
-- Elizabeth Weir portrayed by Torri Higginson was written off at the end of season 3. Why is still unclear, but most reports agree that Higginson was unhappy with the decision.

All about Elizabeth.

Merlin -- When Merlin (BBC) first started, Morgana was a vibrant young woman who spoke her mind and stood up to Uther for what was right. She got punished for it, by Uther, and then by the writers, who then turned her from a 3-dimensional character into a one-note villain. I still love Morgana, but I mourn the character she could have been.

The Tower by [personal profile] kaydeefalls
Morgana and the ever closing vice around her from living under Uther's rule.

As If By Magic by [profile] powderedmilk
Morgana's transformation through season 3. A contrast of a rather dark subject with a catchy upbeat song.

Criminal Minds -- I'm new to this fandom, but one of the first things I learned about the show was how the producers didn't renew AJ Cook's contract for the 6th season with no real reason given. Agent Jennifer "JJ" Jereau was effectively friged with no replacement. JJ deals with the press and many of the families of victims and is compassionate and kind but also hard as nails when she needs to be to get the job done.

 First off:

A picspam of the ladies of Nikita (2010 CW) and reasons you should watch it, all related to the female relationships and plotlines, on LJ and DW

And I guess I might as well link to my female-centric fanfic and vids. :P

Fic:

The Things We Say Are True, Sky High (2005), Penny/Gwen, femslash, 1200 words. A Yuletide fic.

How Do They Rise Up, Harry Potter, Hermione & Padma, gen, 3500 words. (Yes, I got English university horribly wrong. I have yet to get around to fixing that, but will some day.)

The Mary Blake Series, Twilight, Renesmee (eventually Renesmee/Leah), gen to femslash, 3600 words. This is the series of four stories in which I explored the character of Renesmee and how she could reclaim herself from a canon I thought didn't know what to do with her.

lovely in my sight, Narnia, Susan Pevensie, gen, 900 words. A Susan character study. Plus all my other Susan pieces, because I write her... a lot.

Whose Other Side Is Salvation, Narnia/Doctor Who, Susan Pevensie/The Doctor, Edmund Pevensie, het, 2500 words. Primarily Susan focused, as she journeys with the Doctor.

Here's A Girl From A Dangerous Town, Torchwood, Lucia Moretti, het, 1500 words. A woman who fell in love with Jack and then lived to a fairly natural age? She's got to be impressive.

no stamps required, Narnia/Supernatural, Susan Pevensie/Anna Milton, gen, 400 words. Anna and Susan, OTP of practicality and living through sorrow.

another path to carry her burdens, Supernatural, OFC, gen, 300 words. The dead angel in 4x16 had a vessel, and her vessel had a sister.

Vids:

In Some Dreaming State, Narnia, Susan Pevensie. No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world. To "Blinding" by Florence and the Machine.

Wild Child, Doctor Who, Amy Pond. You don't need a reason, let the day go on and on. To "Wild Child" by Enya.

I'm working steadily on my 30 Days of Female Awesome meme, but I'm so anal retentive that I need to have most of it completed before I start posting. On my last day I've been collecting a list of vid recs pertaining to the awesome ladies I've been writing about, and I figured I'd share what I have so far here. Fandoms represented are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, and Doctor Who.

Hi guys!  Totally adoring this comm btw.

Ok, so like I said in the friending meme, I often use my fic to fill in the blanks or fix the wrongs done to female characters in shows.  Here's a collection of my fic so far that I did like this.

You may notice that even though I rant a lot about the ATROCIOUS use of women in Supernatural, there's only one SPN fic.  This is because there is so damn much to fix I just don't have the time!  I don't write fic very often, and when I do it's rarely over 1,000 words, normally under.  Anyway, here's what I have done...

Self Respect
(Supernatural)  A short poem from Jo Harvelle's POV.  Post S5.  Jo Harvelle never thought she'd say no to Dean, but in the end, all she needed was respect.

The First Time
(Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)  Willow and Tara kiss for the first time, but it's not the first time Willow kissed a girl.  (Willow/Tara, Willow/Cordy)  Nominated for the Willowy Goodness Awards.  (-1,000 words)

The Art of Losing
(Angel, the series.)  Post S4.  Lying comatose, Cordelia tells her story to whoever's listening, the last time she'll have to say her point of view about how she got here. (-1,000 words)

Personal Canon: Cordelia Chase
(Angel)  Follows on from the above fic.  Here, I fix the end of S4.  This is how it should have ended, given the whole Cordelia-is-not-a-victim theme that ran through the entirety of AtS, apart from S4 of course. (-500 words)

Untold Fairytale
(Angel) Basically, Eve gets a personality and backstory.  Post S5.  As she watches the city burn, Eve remembers her relationship with Lindsey and her own eternal life. (a little +1,000 words)

Personal Canon: Eve/Lindsey
(Angel) Doesn't exactly follow on from Fairytale, but this is my opinion of how things should have ended.  And in my mind, they did end this way.  (-500 words)

Moment
(Stargate: Atlantis) Post S3.  This is what would have happened had Elizabeth not been left to the Asurans.  Another fixit fic.  Liz/John.  (-1,000 words)

There are a few more fics, like a Faith/Wes one, and they're linked in my sticky post.  There's also this collection of poems.  I included this because I know a few of you are interested in Greek myth.  This has been unlocked for a brief time, so look now while you can!

threads
Brought together by The Fates, three Greek heroines and anti-heroines come together to tell their part in Theseus' tale.  Featuring Ariadne, Hippolyta and Medea.  (1,500 words)

Hope you enjoy!!

~Lili
