Multifandom Ladycentric Reclist
Feb. 2nd, 2013 09:23 pmI do a monthly reclist included in my media recap over at anothercoast.wordpress.com if you're interested in the full(er) list. For this selection I primarily went with true gen, femslash, and het that truly focused on the women. Hope you enjoy! (Note: I've tried to warn where prudent, but please also note any content warnings at the source.)
( 27 fandoms, many fic. Sorry for any format errors. I have a fever! )

Ten Kickass Women Who Deserve More Love
Feb. 10th, 2011 05:22 pmI've posted over at my DW a list of ten (well, eleven, but who's complaining about a bonus?) women who I think need a little more love. They're not all unpopular, though some are, but in general, they're not fandom-at-large's Bright Shiny Objects.
List is here, with fandoms including: Alias, Ashes to Ashes, Burn Notice, Doctor Who, Glee, How I Met Your Mother, Lie to Me, Mad Men, Profit, & Wire in the Blood
(Mods, may I please have a "Lie to Me" tag?)

31 Days of Female Characters
Feb. 7th, 2011 03:48 pmI've been admiring the 30 days of Female Characters posts. I know I'm a little late to the party but I thought I'd post five women a day to write about all of my favorite female characters in books, movies and TV before this event ends. I'm also not a big sci fi genre person although I'm open to it. So most of my favorite female characters are kind of underrepresented in this journal.
( CJ Cregg, Erin Brockovich, Elizabeth Bennet, Peggy Olson and Scout Finch )

A month of posts about awesome women
Feb. 5th, 2011 05:02 pmIn November, I did a 30 Days of Awesome Women meme (though I cheated and did 32 days), with a post a day about my favorite female characters, including a little discussion about each, pics and recs. Here are links to all the posts.

Mad Men picspam, pt. 2: Peggy Olson
Feb. 2nd, 2010 08:59 pmThe second part of my Mad Men picspam focuses on Peggy Olson, who starts out as a naive new secretary and rises to become the first woman copywriter at Sterling Cooper since the war. Peggy was one of the big surprises for me of the show; in the first few episodes, it seemed as if she was being brought in just to act out a plausible, but predictable, victimization storyline, and I found watching her rather painful. But now...now? She is the awkward, but brilliant, adorable, and heartbreaking pioneer at Sterling Cooper, someone who understands desire at least as much as creative genius Don Draper does. (Her relationship with him is one of my favorite man-woman TV partnerships of all time.)
Her taste in men is questionable, but give her a break, she's inventing second-wave feminism here! And her fashion sense? Well, it could use a little work. But it's charming, in its own way.
( Eugene, I'm in the persuasion business, and frankly I'm disappointed by your presentation. )

Mad Men picspam, pt. I: Joan Holloway
Feb. 1st, 2010 11:35 pmMad Men is a show about a particularly noxiously sexist period in American history--the late 1950s and early 1960s--that features some of the best women characters on TV. This picspam is devoted to Joan Holloway, office manager and undisputed queen bee at the advertising agency Sterling Cooper. Conventional to a fault, her mixture of steely-eyed competence and va-va-voom is nonetheless remarkable. Cross Joan at your peril; as far as I can tell, the only way to get out of that predicament is an unwise marriage to a partner.
( I said congratulations, didn't I? Although, sometimes when people get what they want they realize how limited their goals were. )

Feb. 2nd, 2009 12:16 amOriginally, I was planning picspam of female characters I love. But then I decided it it would probably be more fun for everyone if I made the images into icons instead. In the interests of spreading the wealth, I think the icons should all be shareable. So... are shareable. Claim the characters you love!
( 105 icons of awesome kick-ass female characters )
I'm sure I'll make more--even as I was labelling them, I was thinking of all the fandoms and characters I left off by accident... And if you have no idea who someone is or where she comes from, feel free to ask.
