Mad Men picspam, pt. 2: Peggy Olson
Feb. 2nd, 2010 08:59 pmThe second part of my Mad Men picspam focuses on Peggy Olson, who starts out as a naive new secretary and rises to become the first woman copywriter at Sterling Cooper since the war. Peggy was one of the big surprises for me of the show; in the first few episodes, it seemed as if she was being brought in just to act out a plausible, but predictable, victimization storyline, and I found watching her rather painful. But now...now? She is the awkward, but brilliant, adorable, and heartbreaking pioneer at Sterling Cooper, someone who understands desire at least as much as creative genius Don Draper does. (Her relationship with him is one of my favorite man-woman TV partnerships of all time.)
Her taste in men is questionable, but give her a break, she's inventing second-wave feminism here! And her fashion sense? Well, it could use a little work. But it's charming, in its own way.
