Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was my favorite movie of 2010. It begins in a society where a woman's only chance of survival was to get married. It ends with a young woman making her own financial security. But everything in between is the important stuff. A true hero's journey. So let's talk about Alice. Or rather, all the Alices.

Link to picspammy love for all the Alices at my journal.
Spoilers for the movie.

I didn't get done what I wanted to this year, but I love this community, and as I write female-centered fic pretty much year round, I thought I'd go ahead and link my past year's output here. Mostly Babylon 5, with one Buckaroo Banzai piece, and a Being Human short fic. Three of these were written for [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  this past year, one was my entry for [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love  month. One is an update to an epic 'Susan Ivanova and Delenn rule the Universe' story; if you end up curious the various parts are all tagged 'S&D'.

One of my favorite things about Babylon 5 is the strong, kick-ass women. They weren't used enough or to their full potential, but the show did pretty well, and filling in those gaps? That's what fic is for!

The Ship Who Squealed (B5, Susan Ivanova & Marcus Cole)

Enemy in the Mirror (B5, Delenn)

Chick Flick
(B5, Susan Ivanova & Delenn, part of The Excellent Adventures of Susan and Delenn)

Chocolate Chip Cookies (Buckaroo Banzai, Penny Priddy &  Mrs. Johnson, [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  entry)

A Nice Cup of Tea (Being Human, Annie Sawyer, [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  entry)

Never Give Up  (B5, Lise Garibaldi, [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  entry)

Memory and Hope (B5, Anna Kellar (Anna Sheridan-to-be) & Lizzie Sheridan, [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love  month entry)

I'll Be Seeing You
(B5, Delenn) (This one is rather shippy in flashbacks, but takes place long after John Sheridan's death)

Christmas in Geneva (B5, Susan Ivanova)

I'm working steadily on my 30 Days of Female Awesome meme, but I'm so anal retentive that I need to have most of it completed before I start posting. On my last day I've been collecting a list of vid recs pertaining to the awesome ladies I've been writing about, and I figured I'd share what I have so far here. Fandoms represented are Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, and Doctor Who.

Over here at my journal

Hope you enjoy!

Great to see so much being posted here! I've written a few stories focusing on female characters in the Harry Potter series:

Lily Evans/Potter: Touch the Face of the Stars, 7,000 words, rated PG-13 with a warning for character death. Summary: Lily tries to work out what is worth living - or dying - for. This story inevitably contains some Lily/James, but it is essentially gen.

Petunia Evans/Dursley: The Exiles, 7,750 words, rated R with a warning for infidelity. Pairings: Petunia/Charlie, Petunia/Vernon. Summary: Six months into her exile in the wizarding world, Petunia meets someone who forces her to examine both herself and her relationship with her husband.

Alice Longbottom: Bright Unconquered Suns, 5,000 words, rated R for one very understated sex scene. Summary: As the dust settles after Hallowe'en 1981, Alice and Frank return to work, where they are given an unpleasant mission. Meanwhile, Alice is haunted by the fates of Lily, James and Harry.

Augusta Longbottom: The Dying of the Light, 4,000 words, rated PG-13 with a warning for upsetting issues such as memory loss. Summary: Augusta and Neville adjust to life after the attack on Frank and Alice. The ending of this is now jossed by canon.

Nymphadora Tonks: Afterthoughts, 1,000 words, rated R for sexual references and language. Summary: Post Deathly Hallows, Tonks gets a few things off her chest.

There are plenty of other stories that focus on the female characters, too, but I don't want to spam. :) Check the tags at [livejournal.com profile] squishedstories if you're interested.

I'd also like to recommend a Ginny genfic: We Are Tired Of Your Discipline by [livejournal.com profile] tosca1390. 2,240 words, rated PG-13. Summary: The feeling that she’d either kill or be killed at Hogwarts this year hadn’t left her all summer.

I did a female character meme during January, and hope it's okay to link to it here.

Most posts are picspams, and there are a couple of vids, one for Cybill/Maryann, and one of Theo, from Jeremiah.

I tried to avoid repeating fandoms, and tried to ignore the women I thought it was most obvious I loved (Janeway, Ivanova, Scully, etc). Some posts are about a character, some are about pairings, and some are about an entire show.

Thirty days of women I love. )

A brief overview--

Justice League/Justice League: Unlimited is an animated show that ran from 2001 to 2004 revolving around the characters of DC Comics. Although the first two seasons focused on the original Justice League members-- Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Hawkgirl, and J'onn-- the third season and onward spent episodes on a variety of characters including Vixen, the Huntress, the Black Canary, and Supergirl.

So why should you be interested in this show? For one thing, the women in the show are awesome. And another, there is a wide variety of women over the five seasons, from warriors like Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl to civilians like Lois Lane and Mera to villains like Star Sapphire. And they interact with each other-- sometimes as friends, sometimes as allies, sometimes as enemies.

Below the cut are a list and description of various female characters and why I love them, as well as a list of female-centric episodes and two fanfics you might enjoy!
