Okay, it's time to face the fact that I will not have time to finish anything new for this challenge, it being tax season and all. So, as an excuse to share a batch of reruns, I've converted them into downloadable ePub files. (Don't worry if you don't actually have an eReader, that's just the excuse. The titles link to good old-fashioned html.)

  • Blindsided (Buffyverse, Faith Lehane) A short character piece with Faith and Robin Wood. (ebook)

  • Inside Job (Roswell, Isabel Evans) A plotty exploration of personal identity. (ebook)

  • Institutionalized (Star Trek Voyager, Kathryn Janeway) Angst in the original sense of the word. Please note the trigger warnings. (ebook)

  • Jaunt to Paradise (Stargate SG-1, Sam Carter) A fun action piece. (ebook)

  • Kite String (Buffyverse, Kennedy) A canon-friendly retelling of season seven, from Kennedy's perspective. (ebook)

  • No Place Like Home (Stargate SG-1, Vala Mal Doran) Humor, angst, action -- it's Vala. The first section is from Daniel's POV, but it's very much Vala's story. (ebook)

  • Outside the Crystal (Merlin BBC, Gwen) A series two fix-it for Gwen/Morgana fans. (ebook)

  • Thirty Six Hours (Star Trek Voyager, Kathryn Janeway) Non-stop action with a Kathryn Janeway who definitely trains against Klingons on the holodeck. (ebook)

  • The Verse That Was (Firefly, Inara Serra) A caper fic featuring Inara. (ebook)

  • When the Gloves Come Off (X-Men Movieverse, Rogue) Another plotty exploration of personal identity. (ebook)

And if anyone finds it more convenient, you can download the whole set of eBooks in a single zip file here.

(If any links break, please let me know, I've been having issues with my server recently.)

I've wanted to contribute something to [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon this year, now that I've finally got an LJ account after a long time lurking, but I've been seriously lacking in suitable inspiration so I was hoping a commentfic fest might help get those gears turning again.

The meme is being hosted at my journal and I'd really love for you to come play. Please spread the word; more people means more fic. ;)

It occurred to me, almost too late, that I couldn't remember seeing ANY representation of trans girls or women in [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon this year. This, I determined to fix. And thus! MASSIVE icon post of Kim Foyle from the adorable 1996 British romantic movie, Different For Girls. (Her co-star and love interest is played by the madly hot Philip Graves, who some of you may recall as playing Lestrade in the BBC's Sherlock miniseries last year.)

Kim is fantastic. She's smart and strong and funny and beautiful, and watching her fall in love with her old best friend and get to finally ride off into the sunset (well, sunrise) with him is wonderful - especially since she's the one who gets to do the driving.

I screencapped pretty much the entire movie, so the icon post is probably spoilery - but on the other hand, it's a romantic movie, so if you can't figure out that there's misunderstandings and then they finally get together and live happily ever after, then you haven't been paying attention. But it's adorable all the same.

Mods, can I get a 'Different For Girls' tag, please?

As part of this community is celebrating the unsung heroines of fandom, I made a picspam + minimeta for Daphne on No Ordinary Family. She is most definitely unsung...and one of the major reasons I'm watching the show.

After the cut I'll tell you why Daphne is tres vunderbar.

I approached the beginning of February hoping to write some fic about the awesome ladies of the Final Fantasy game series, but it soon became clear that I wanted to write meta instead.

Title: In Defense of X-2
(on Dreamwidth/on LiveJournal)
Fandoms: Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy X
Characters: Yuna, Rikku, Paine, Lucil, Lulu, Leblanc...
Rating: G. Contains spoilers.
Summary: My analysis of FFX-2 from a feminist perspective, and why I think X-2 is a stronger portrayal of women than many people give it credit for.

I finished the draft for this a while back, but [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon starting up again inspired me to polish it up and make it ready for public consumption.

Who Do You Think You're Fooling? (R)

The Vampire Diaries tv series is definitely the fandom I've been most involved with over the last year. (Note: "Involved" actually means "obsessed".) So here's a list of most of the female-centred fanworks I enjoyed from 2010. Basically everything I remembered to bookmark. Fifty-three in all: one fanmix, two picspams, seven videos, and fourty-three fics if I counted correctly. (I was originally going to pare it down, but then there were just so many! So if I like it, it's probably in here.)

"Lady-centric", for the purposes of this post, is not just limited to works that focus entirely on one or more female characters. It means that the female character gets a greater proportion of the focus/characterization (maybe a few that are 50/50), and isn't just there as a prop for some guy's emotions.

Vampires and Witches and Doppelgangers, Oh My! )

Since its Valentine's Day tomorrow and I believe the last day for this comm, I made some Valentine Cards to/based on some of the ladies I love in fandom. I've also included the blank template if you want to make some yourself.

I would have made them more elaborate and personal - but there is only so long a gal can put off doing homework for.

please keep your arms inside the vehicle at all times please..... )

Pic spams:
Pic Spam: Gender-swapped Mission Impossible (Note: this was a swapping of the late 80's remake they tried, with Phelps and Collier's kid)

Also, because Ros Myers (of Spooks/MI-5) is awesome, two pic spams I came across in my journeys over the last week:
a) 11 random reasons to love Ros Myers
b) Two pic spams about Ros Myers - Both contain spoilers and are by [livejournal.com profile] aletheia08

Fic:
Battlestar Galactica ('03) - No Easy Answers - Ellen Tigh brings Laura Roslin some alcohol on New Caprica. Drunkenness happens.

Doctor Who/Torchwood
Stages of Grief - the women of Torchwood, post-Children of Earth
Living in a Photograph (where I'll find you waiting someday) - Donna Noble, series five--implied spoilers through The Pandorica Opens
Divergence - post-Whovie, Grace Holloway focused. After stopping the end of the world in a time machine, learning to just be a doctor again isn't hard... mostly. Then again, there are aliens out there.

Nikita - Conspiracy Theory - Jaden-focused. Everyone has an agenda, some of them are less obvious than others.

Crossovers
Five Things That (Probably) Never Happened to Sarah Corvus - Bionic Woman 2007 (Bones, NCIS, Torchwood, BTVS, Blake's 7)
Picking up Stragglers - Pirates of the Caribbean/Star Trek 2009, Anamaria should have known they couldn't handle a simple resupply without her.
Thumbelina - Doctor Who/BSG, Dodo Chaplet has a conversation with an Eight.
Pull the Pin - Burn Notice/Stargate: Atlantis, Fiona knows a guy who knows a guy, and Laura Cadman's just on an enforced vacation. Two explosives afficianados, one bar. What could possibly go wrong?
Another Day Gone - Law and Order: Criminal Intent/Marvel's X-Men, It's the end of the world, and Eames and Wheeler are learning to survive.

Another oldie from me: a post I made few years ago about the female characters of Babylon 5 and why I love them all (even the ones that I don't).

It occurs to me that while I have written new fic and done recs and all that sort of thing for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoons past and present, I don't think I've ever catalogued my own female character-focused fic. And, well, that's most of what I write, so it's worth doing, I suppose. This is not an exhaustive list, but it is some of the stuff I'm more fond of. Most of it is a few years old, since life has been intervening in the fic writing during the last year or two.

Alias
A Fairer House than Prose (Irina Derevko, written February 2011)

Battlestar Galactica
The Signs that the Signmakers Made (Laura Roslin, written June 2007)
Eschatos (Laura Roslin and the Opera House women, contains some Roslin/Adama, written January 2008)
Latter Days (Anastasia Dualla and Laura Roslin, written November 2008)
Infinite Regress (The Origin Stories Remix) (Athena, Lord of Kobol, and Pythia, written for [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix in July 2009)

Farscape
Five Things That Never Happened to Xhalax Sun (written August 2006)
wee untitled Chiana and Moya ficlet (written April 2007)

Lie to Me
Five Things Gillian Foster Has Never Told Anyone (written January 2010)

Stargate: SG-1
Of Belonging to Another (Sam Carter, Vala Mal Doran, and Sarah Gardner, written July 2006)
The Sea with its Deepness (Janet Fraiser, written March 2008)

Title: Shining Like Silver
Fandoms: Star Trek: Voyager / Torchwood
Characters: Seven, the Holographic Doctor, Lisa
Rating: PG
Summary: Ten years after their return to the Alpha Quadrant, Seven is brought in to consult on a most unusual case.

 First off:

A picspam of the ladies of Nikita (2010 CW) and reasons you should watch it, all related to the female relationships and plotlines, on LJ and DW

And I guess I might as well link to my female-centric fanfic and vids. :P

Fic:

The Things We Say Are True, Sky High (2005), Penny/Gwen, femslash, 1200 words. A Yuletide fic.

How Do They Rise Up, Harry Potter, Hermione & Padma, gen, 3500 words. (Yes, I got English university horribly wrong. I have yet to get around to fixing that, but will some day.)

The Mary Blake Series, Twilight, Renesmee (eventually Renesmee/Leah), gen to femslash, 3600 words. This is the series of four stories in which I explored the character of Renesmee and how she could reclaim herself from a canon I thought didn't know what to do with her.

lovely in my sight, Narnia, Susan Pevensie, gen, 900 words. A Susan character study. Plus all my other Susan pieces, because I write her... a lot.

Whose Other Side Is Salvation, Narnia/Doctor Who, Susan Pevensie/The Doctor, Edmund Pevensie, het, 2500 words. Primarily Susan focused, as she journeys with the Doctor.

Here's A Girl From A Dangerous Town, Torchwood, Lucia Moretti, het, 1500 words. A woman who fell in love with Jack and then lived to a fairly natural age? She's got to be impressive.

no stamps required, Narnia/Supernatural, Susan Pevensie/Anna Milton, gen, 400 words. Anna and Susan, OTP of practicality and living through sorrow.

another path to carry her burdens, Supernatural, OFC, gen, 300 words. The dead angel in 4x16 had a vessel, and her vessel had a sister.

Vids:

In Some Dreaming State, Narnia, Susan Pevensie. No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world. To "Blinding" by Florence and the Machine.

Wild Child, Doctor Who, Amy Pond. You don't need a reason, let the day go on and on. To "Wild Child" by Enya.
