Day 7 Passion - Women's Hockey - Various

Watching women play hockey is one of my passions. So, in honor of National Girls and Women in Sport Day, here are a few photos of women's hockey.



Leading off is a picture of the opening ceremonical faceoff for the Professional Women's Hockey League, the new women's hockey league in North America (some of you may remember from the primer I wrote last year that I believed that it would never come to pass, but it did so here we are.) Billie Jean King, one of the league's investors and advisory board members, and Jayna Hefford, Hockey Hall of Fame Member and Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for the league. Hefford shed a few happy tears during the moment (and I may have too)



Next, we have two players who are the best in the game: Marie-Philip Poulin and Hilary Knight

I love Team Japan. I started watching them in the 2018 Olympics and I really enjoyed the enthusiasm they have for the game (their team nickname is "Smile Japan".) They have consistently improved since they started and their success really tickles me.

Awesome! I always love to see more women in sports. I don't get a chance to watch hockey often (women's or men's) but I always love watching a team celebrate when they score. Just pure joy 😊

I haven't been following women's hockey in the past few years (or any hockey at all!) – but it's still been so happy-making to hear now and then about how successful the PWHL has been so far! Thanks for sharing this happy news, and for sharing such great moments on the ice!

OMG, Japan. I am excited to see the game grow and to have the bigger teams today get knocked from the international podium in the future. (It will be gutting, but glorious.)

...and you're making me want to post more PWHL things, so, good job? I am excited for the Valentine's present of the international break being over and PWHL hockey being back and the thing where everything is streamed on youtube this season is really lovely, also.

But yes, this is such a great fill for passion, especially considering the history of women's hockey. *applauds wildly*
