One for each of my Big Loves. Surprisingly (considering what I usually write), these are all work-safe, but alas, none of them are new.

The Unfathomable Distance of Stars
The X-Files - Samantha Mulder, at the end of the world.
Since Scully was the focus of everything else I wrote in XF, I decided to choose this one just because it's different.

Reflections in a Stolen "I"
Farscape - The one where Aeryn comes back. Again.
My one and only attempt at an action fic, in first person, no less. [smacks self upside the head] This was written after Bringing Home the Beacon, but before Prayer, so effectively AU. Also relatively long.

And Those Who Love
Xena, Warrior Princess - Lila, Gabrielle
The bard's sister, Lila, has her own story to tell. (Warning: Post-FIN, so angst ahoy.)
This was part of a long, unfinished odyssey detailing Gabrielle's return from Japan. (In fact, most of what I wrote in XWP never made it off my hard drive since the show was over by the time I found it and I didn't really know where to post.) This did make it as far as my site, so it's kind of new...though also {gulp} years old.

One Hand Open, One Eye Closed
Sarah Connor Chronicles - Sarah, Cameron
Cameron isn't the only one who doesn't sleep.
Not a hard choice here, as so far it's my one and only. I expected there to be more, but alas, grad school sucks down days and spits out only minutes.

Hope you enjoy reading these as much as I enjoyed writing them. And now I'm off to procrast-- er, peruse some wonderful Memories.

Like so many people, I planned to write shiny new ficlets for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, and then found myself suddenly devoid of inspiration and time. So here are a handful of my fics about female characters whom I have liked or admired for one reason or another.

~

Haruno Sakura (Naruto) -- Five people Sakura punches in the face -- 1712 words
Patience, Sakura decides, is for people who aren't holding lives in the space between their mind and their fingers.

Padma Patil (Harry Potter) -- Healer -- 4506 words
Padma feels crowded with the words that are already scrawled on every inch of her, the power that she alone possesses, and she wonders if this new graffiti of education is overwriting that which already exists.

Lucy Saxon (Doctor Who) -- No Sleepers Must Sleep -- 3513 words
These are the things that Lucy finds infuriating: transparent liquids, vanilla ice cream, slow music, and people who cannot speak Shakespeare correctly.

Elizabeth Weir (Stargate: Atlantis) -- No More To Leave It -- 3275 words
The city and John are so alike: they prefer to negotiate down the barrel of a gun, or at the tip of a knife.

Amanda Tanen (Ugly Betty) -- My Friday Smile -- 1930 words
She’s never had the courage to defy a trend; she wears them too well.

Anastasia 'Dee' Dualla (Battlestar Galactica) -- Set Light To Me Some Surprising Day -- 4491 words
It is a new feeling to be ashamed of the echoes of her own feet, but death does strange things to the people it doesn’t rip apart.

Evey Hammond (V For Vendetta) -- the lights burn blue -- 1078 words
Of the eight hundred and forty-two songs she will allow herself only one per day.

For Vividcon in 2007, I VJed a show called Relationships Between Women... and last year at Vividcon I joked that if only I'd waited until 2009, I could have more than doubled the available pool of fantastic vids to choose from for this theme. So, I thought it would be fun to post the playlist from the actual show with my comments about why I chose what I did then, followed by a playlist for a virtual encore vidshow, or Relationships Between Women 2009 (if I had to do it again now). In both cases, the vids all focus on relationships between women. I tried to include as wide an emotional range and variety of relationships as possible, and the women in these vids are friends, lovers, rivals, sisters, enemies, partners, alter egos, or all of the above.

Like a few of you, I had intended to get something original written in time for this, but that's not how things turned out. So, in lieu of that, I offer a selection of my favorite female characterizations in my fics.

I wanted to share with you one Fiona Glenanne, the extraordinary leading lady of Burn Notice, because there's rather more ambivilancy toward her in fandom than I find personally acceptable. She is awesome and everyone should love her!

So, originally I was going to write fic (Working Title: Fiona's Adventures In NYC.) but it's 4,000 words long and shows no sign of stopping.

So, I went with the backup plan and thus, we have PICSPAM:

I apologize briefly for the quality of some of the caps; I'm working largely from the analogue broadcast rather than the HD broadcast or from DVD rips.

Fiona Glenanne does not need to kill you with her brain. She has firearms and explosives and a pair of chopsticks for that. )

I thought I'd do a little roundup post before the end of this wonderful lovefest, and mention a few of my favorite fics I've written with female leads.

I had a faint hope of finishing my current WIP with Faith Lehane from Buffy in the Supernatural world, but it has gotten increasingly complex and I have no idea when it's going to be finished. If anyone cares to come along for the ride, it's up to 22 chapters and I update every workday unless something comes up. In Living on a Prayer Faith has a slayer dream that sends her on a reluctant journey back to her hometown on a mission to save Castiel.

A Faith story that's pretty unusual for me is Annunciation, narrated by Willow, featuring Faith, a Venus and a handful of Virgins.

And I loves me some Dawn Summers Existential Issues. I've written three stories in which her made-up history and her issues around not being "real" are key (heh) elements.

Indelible is told from Xander's POV, but the story is about Dawn's existential wig when Oz returns from his world travels and doesn't remember her.

Pentimento: 52 Moments That Never Happened to Dawn (and One That Probably Will) is a series of drabbles that explores the fake memories the monks created in Dawn and everyone around her, set in BtVS seasons 1-4 -- with one drabble taking place in the future.

Kindred Spirits is a humongous fic that started out as a ficlet and just grew. 20-year-old college student Dawn meets a sardonic and sexy academic who turns out to be Ethan Rayne, who has a complicated agenda related to Dawn and her mystical origins. Neither of them realizes exactly what they're getting into.

A/N: Written for halfamoon. This probably stomps all over Tolkien, which is why I set it in the movieverse. 530 words.

DISCLAIMER: They're not mine, I'm borrowing them. But CC, if you're reading this, I could do with a job...
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Well, my plans for writing the main female characters for The X Files and Californication didn't quite work out. I think I've managed to write Scully, Samantha Mulder, Teena Mulder, Melissa Scully, Margaret Scully and Ellen. So 6 out of the 14 I had planned, and most of those were about Scully. But I'm pretty happy with what I've come up with, and I've celebrated some of the strong female characters we have in the fandom at least. This is the last one.

An bunch of my SGA stories focused on Teyla: gen, femmeslash, and het, a meta, and two recs.

Black Lace, On And Off - Teyla/Laura
Rodney complains of Laura's mouth. Her tongue, he claims, is sharp, but then he never felt her tongue tracing soft circles across his lips.

Precisely My Cup Of Tea - girl!John/Teyla
Over time, you learn all kinds of things about yourself.

Five Men Who Never Wanted Teyla Emmagan - Teyla/various
The line between attraction and action is fine. At least five men in Atlantis walk it very closely.

Five Women Who Never Wanted Teyla Emmagan - Teyla/various
The line between attraction and action is fine. At least five women walk it very closely.

Possibility And Commonality - Teyla, Sam
Playing chicken with a Wraith dart definitely wasn't Sam's idea of fun. Unfortunately, it wasn't as though they had a choice.

Not Usually And Always - Teyla, Vala
It starts when Vala pulls a gun on Teyla.

Laws Of Parsimony - Teyla, team
"Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem."

Fellowship Of The Fridge - Teyla, John.
Mere hours after her people leave the city of the Ancestors for the mainland, Teyla is missing them.

To All Things An Ending - Teyla, Elizabeth
Death is a constant companion to most races of the Pegasus galaxy. In the end, the Pegasus races remember not how a person died, but how they lived.

Persephone Longs For Home - John/Teyla
Teyla learns about pomegranates and living between two worlds.

Five Suggestions On How To Write Teyla

--

two recs

The Language Of Hard Nouns by [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve - Teyla, incidental Teyla/Michael
Teyla raised shaking hands to her face and traced the lines of her cheekbones, along smooth skin that was suddenly cooler to the touch, running her fingertips over the two slits in her cheeks which had not been there before. A strange cry forced its way out of her throat, high and inhuman; and that, she thought, with a sudden, dizzying clarity, was appropriate. How could she be human now; what was she anymore?

The Truth About Alliances by [livejournal.com profile] vipersweb - Teyla, team, incidental John/Teyla
Teyla always knew she should have explained the way alliances worked in Pegasus before someone else did. Too bad she doesn't have that option anymore.
