Avatar: The Last Airbender is a series I love dearly, for many reasons. One not insignificant reason is the number of awesome ladies. They are heroines and villains, warriors and village girls. But they are never just "The Girl." They are all people in their own right, and they are amazing.

Katara has always been my favourite of all these incredible female characters. She is caring, and responsible. . . and stubborn, and self-righteous, and not above making mistakes.

Beware lots of images behind the cut. All screencaps come from Iroh.org.

Oh Katara, the whole reason I watched, loved, and continue to adore Avatar.

She's so much more than Group Mom or Love Interest, and it makes me sad to see her reduced to that so often in fandom - especially when the show goes right out and addresses Group Mom with a great big "BUT SHE'S MORE THAN THAT!".

She's psychologist, doctor, fighter, organizer, commander; she can disarm without killing for chrissakes! (All of this while acting like a fourteen year old girl!) Kat's definitely at the root of my adoration for Avatar.

Wow, that is a lot of screencaps. But I, for one, certainly don't mind. I always welcome any kind of Katara love.

Thank you for this.

Kataraaaaaa! Totally an appropriate number of screencaps for her! ;) I love all the women of Avatar but Katara has a special place in my heart for taking so many stereotypically feminine roles (the healer, the group mom) and being a complete badass on top of them! She's so many things and I just adore that about her. ♥
