Day 6: Fic - Starfleet Academy - Sam
Feb. 6th, 2026 08:29 pmI was originally gonna skip this prompt because I couldn't figure out who to write, but then I watched last night's new Starfleet Academy episode, and decided I could be really literal with interpreting "her own personal code" as a prompt 😁 (anyway, no spoilers for episode 5 here)
Title: Technicalities
Fandom: Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
Character: Sam (Series Acclimation Mil)
Rating: G
Length: 150 words
Summary: Sam contemplates a question while waiting for her friends
Link: here on ao3 or you can read it under the cut below
Is there any difference between photonics and organics other than technicalities?
Sam considers this question while waiting in the Atrium for her friends to arrive. She sits on a low wall and swings her legs, heels tapping against the brick. But she could sink right through her seat if she wanted.
Technically, Sam's only a bundle of complex computer code, designed to look like a regular flesh-and-blood student. But sometimes she feels like she's spilling past her own parameters.
In the few months she's existed, she's learned that she likes fun nicknames from her friends, enjoys discovering new things in her classes, and thinks she's getting pretty darn good at playing the theremin.
Along the way, she's learned plenty about her new friends too. There are some commonalities, but their individualism shines through like a sun.
Sam has her own personal code she operates by.
But, then again, doesn't everybody?
