Perhaps a bit of a stretch for this prompt but I can see Aneela and Delle Seyah being each other's "first loves" 🥰 Regardless, I finally had an excuse to post this fic I've been sitting on for months
Title: like a powerful tide
Fandom: Killjoys
Pairing: Aneela/Delle Seyah Kendry
Rating: T
Link: here on ao3 or you can read the full fic under the cut:
Kendry knows how to work a crowd.
From her earliest memories, she was mingling with members of The Nine at all sorts of soirees and galas and other fancy parties. She learned how to read minute changes in body language and how to listen to whispered side conversations. Anything that would give her the advantage amongst the hungry sharks.
These days – with the Hullen war behind them, Aneela's green flowing through her veins, and having The Nine under her thumb – she worries less about getting stabbed in the back around these people. Though she would lament ruining a good dress if it were to happen.
These days, she can simply focus on having a good time.
Kendry walks through this evening's party, pausing occasionally when someone stops her with droll small talk in a pathetic attempt at getting in her good graces. She smirks, nods, makes mental notes about potential weaknesses to exploit, and makes sure to hold her shoulders and chin high.
But most of the time, Kendry's eyes are drawn to her partner. Her queen.
It's always easy to find her, even when Kendry is on the other side of the spacious ballroom.
Aneela flits through the party crowd like a powerful tide coming to sweep away everything on the shore, leaving dazed debris in her wake. Today, she's wearing a dazzling blue that sparkles when the light hits at just the right angle. It's the kind of dress that Kendry would love to see in a heap on the floor.
Aneela is listening – or rather, pretending to listen – to the current person who's strolled up and started kowtowing to gain favor. But her eyes are already sweeping around the room until she meets Kendry's, staring back.
Her lips curve into a smirk, as if to say that the person in her ear is merely a buzzing insect, of no importance.
Kendry mirrors the expression, and then grabs a drink from the tray of a passing waiter. She sips it slowly, her eyes still locked with Aneela's.
Those beautiful eyes shift into something akin to mischievously playful. A bit devilish, as Aneela always has been. She abandons the person beside her, leaving them dangling mid-sentence as she marches across the room right to Kendry.
"I'm tired of this party," she announces.
"Leaving so soon?" Kendry teases.
Aneela reaches out, her hand caressing the side of Kendry's face, tracing her jawline before her fingers linger tantalizingly on her neck and collarbone. Kendry leans into the touch.
"I saw someone beautiful here, and I need to take her home."
Kendry grins.
"Well then, by all means, lead the way."
Kendry may know how to work a crowd, but Aneela always knows how to work her.
