Summary: Prompt: original Orion character (not!Gaila from the deleted scenes), just because she and Gaila are the only Orions at the Academy doesn't mean they're anything alike. (Interpret how you will.) Nhen runs into Gaila at a bar. She isn’t pleased.

 

 

Reccer's Notes: This tackles the deleted scene of Jim running into another Orion female, mistaking her for Gaila, and apologizing for her because "lol they all look the same to him." It's a terrible premise that was thankfully ditched in the final film, but the fic takes the premise and makes it a greater issue of Starfleet's biases against Orions. It also serves as an interesting piece to explore asexuality within a culture that barely understands the concept of consent, and presents Gaila as someone who truly believes in a sisterhood of women above all else. Content warnings for brief discussions of slavery and lack of consent within Orion culture, as well as unintended sexual harassment in Starfleet.
