Summary: Dan's thoughts as the Foxes played for the championship
A/N: All for the Game is a series of books by Nora Sakavic. Most of the characters mentioned in the books are male with the three women here and two adults (team doctor & psychiatrist) representing the bulk of the women. While being very well-written, these books are also intense and very trigger-heavy so just beware going in. The following fic is safe to read for everyone though.
Dan grinned from ear to ear when she stepped out onto the Exy court. It didn't matter that their fans stood out like orange dots in a sea of black. What mattered was that she was here. The team was here. Everything that she'd believed in since receiving the captaincy was finally coming to fruition. They'd overcome their differences and personality conflicts and the smallest team in college Exy, the Palmetto State Foxes, was now playing for the championship.
The game was a mess but they stayed with the Ravens. When the final buzzer sounded, she was bruised and battered, but none of that mattered because the Foxes had won. She let out a whoop of triumph and ran to greet the other two women on the team. She, Allison, and Renee embraced and hopped around like crazy in front of the stunned crowd. The three of them had been through so much together. It was important to celebrate with them.
“We did it!” cried Allison, as though she had to convince herself.
“Damn straight,” said Dan.
There was a trophy ceremony at mid-field. Dan received the trophy and lifted it high in the air, not minding a bit the ache in her arms as she did so. This moment and the feelings that surrounded it were going to live in her mind forever.
