I feel like I don't have to explain why I picked Wednesday Addams for the "murder & mayhem" prompt 🤭 (the fic is just mayhem tho, no murder)

Title: A wild scorpion chase
Fandom: Wednesday
Pairing: Wednesday/Enid (it's mostly just a gen fic tho)
Rating: G
Link: here on ao3 or you can read the full fic under the cut:

There is usually a quiet to Monday mornings at Nevermore Academy. Students, still groggy from the weekend, trudge towards their classrooms in a petulant daze, annoyed that they must resume learning so early in the morning.

Today, however, the quiet in the hallways is punctuated by the lovely melody of terrified screams.

Wednesday smiles and watches the chaos unfold.

A handful of students run out of a classroom nearby, chased by a small scorpion. They run into another screaming bunch trying to escape another scorpion. Books and pencil cases go sailing through the air at the collision, like parts of an improvised dance routine spinning out of control.

A couple of vampires dash by, hissing at the little creatures in the same way they try to avoid werewolves. Wednesday makes a mental note of their surprising scorpion aversion for future reference.

"You're responsible for this, aren't you?" Enid asks, sighing as she steps up beside Wednesday.

"Technically, Thing is the one who knocked over their cage."

Enid looks unimpressed with this answer.

"They're not even venomous," Wednesday clarifies. "I'm not sure what all the fuss is about."

More shrieking comes from a nearby classroom, and a teacher runs by with a broom in hand, brandishing it like a sword. Wednesday thinks this whole thing is a fascinating study of human behavior in the face of perceived danger.

Good fodder for her novel.

"I caught one!" someone calls out from the other end of the hallway, holding up a glass jar for anyone nearby to see. "Oh, it's got a number on it. This is number three."

"How many are there?" someone else howls in dismay.

In another corner, one of the gorgons is trying to turn a stray scorpion to stone. He's unsuccessful since the tiny creature is only really interested in looking at his ankles, not his head.

"How long do you think classes will be delayed?" Enid muses.

Wednesday shrugs. "With everyone's abysmal scorpion hunting skills, it could be hours."

A weeping siren points to a little scorpion labeled #7 that just scurried past her toes.

"We could go get a nice breakfast from the cafeteria while we wait," Enid suggests.

While Wednesday is reluctant to forgo the opportunity to witness all this mayhem firsthand, she has also grown to enjoy sharing a meal with Enid. And sometimes it can be fun to piece together chaos from secondhand accounts too. Exaggerations of danger can be quite amusing.

"I suppose," she agrees.

Besides, they may even still be looking for scorpions when they return later.

There had been only nine scorpions in the cage, but Wednesday had intentionally skipped over a number when she'd labeled them, making it look like the total was ten. There's no telling how long they'll be on a wild scorpion chase for the nonexistent #4.

Once again, she smiles at the thought as she follows Enid towards the cafeteria.

There's no better way to start the week than a little Monday morning mayhem to keep people on their toes.
