halfamoon | Day 1: Black/White/Shades of grey, a bit of love for Valerie Gray and Dani Phantom

I thought of Valerie Gray from Danny Phantom immediately, given her name! But another character came to mind as well: Dani Phantom, whose character design is literally black and white. Check them out in this piece of gorgeous fan art (gen) by ecto-stone.

Val's a ghost hunter. Canonically, she hates her ex-crush's ghostly alter ego, Danny, the titular character of this cartoon, because she believes he wrecked her family's financial situation. But she gets along fine with said crush's clone, a girl named Dani, who, just like Danny, can transform between her ghost and human forms. Valerie doesn't know that though.

Dani's small and cute and probably petty. She'll lie to your face while wearing an expression of innocence, but she's also been manipulated by the "father figure" who created her as a clone and needs to find her way in life. Fanon characterises her as a free spirit, a traveller. Valerie's someone who'll pursue her targets with single-minded focus and is sometimes prone to anger, but she's hella protective of those she cares about and the innocent, even someone she's just met, like Dani. They've both got good hearts. Neither is above enacting revenge on those who've wronged them. The fandom's given them a ship name: vengeful babes.
