The dreams about being a little girl weren't as bad as the other dreams, where she and Lily were one, running endlessly lost through a hall of mirrors. She'd have been better off with one of the mirrors here, polished brass and octiron without a piece of glass to shatter. What Lily might have done with octiron mirrors was unthinkable.

Granny lit her oil lap, moving slowly with creaking bones, and addressed at her dim image in the mirror.

"I wasn't goin' to let you win, but I'd rather we'd both been not-losers together."
