Vid rec: "Half Acre" (SGA, Teyla)

I've always felt this vid, a study of Teyla's broadening sense of "home" (with certain John/Teyla overtones), never got its proper due in fandom. I'm not sure that its central technical conceit, which some viewers may find a little distracting, entirely works--like "This Is How It Works", its style of fading into and out of short clips evokes a dreamy, remembered quality, but it doesn't quite add the same layers of meaning as in that vid. Nonetheless, it brings to bear on Teyla the kind of thoughtful vidder's gaze that lets you re-see certain overlooked moments as suddenly fraught with meaning. And it's also got several genuinely gorgeous sequences (especially around 2:25, the flight of the jumper fading into Teyla sweeping across the sparring mat). Worth watching if you care for Teyla at all.

Do you have permission to link directly to her vid file, then? If you don't have permission, then that's very bad etiquette. BTW, a quick search reveals that kitakatzz is on LJ, if you wish to ask her. In lieu of that, linking to her vid page (http://kitakatzz.thedarksea.net/) is far better manners. It allows viewers to browse her other vids and to email her feedback, rather than just being a mysterious downloading drain on that one file.

Actually, I do not consider that "very bad etiquette." Her vids (and site) are not password-protected (and they don't contain any request that I can see that people link only to her page). The link is public. I am happy to respect any access control that vidders put into place (or request), but I don't believe it's necessary to create more access control than an individual vidder does. A "downloading drain" is also known as an "audience," and, of course, the resource consumption is the same whether people download the vid from her page or from this rec.

(And her email appears at the end of the vid, so if people wish to contact her with feedback--as I certainly hope they do!--they have the means to do so.)
