Notes: This is a terrific Mai-centric long fic that takes place post-canon. The author does such a good job with Mai's characterization and viewpoint, the post-canon story makes sense and is filled with details about post-war politics. Canon and original characters are well-drawn, and the Mai-Aang bonding throughout the fic is fantastic.

Also check out kiaraalazulu's gorgeous, touching artwork for this fic. The artist chose one of the saddest and most poignant scenes in the story and rendered it beautifully. There is also an image description at the link.
