Some assumed it was losing her friends.

Others thought it had to do with the complicated relationship rumored with the Director.

In truth, the breaking of SHIELD on HYDRA's plans was the only heartbreak that mattered. Maria Hill was given over to the path that SHIELD had been meant to stand for, protecting the weak and helpless against tyranny and fascism.

In the ruins of it all, Maria could only see the broken path ahead with despair. How did she, and the others that survived, make SHIELD what it was meant to be?

She would have to do it, though.

Reluctant Heroine - Arya Stark - Game of Thrones

It was instinct, nothing more. Everything she’d been through had brought her to this moment. First Syrio Forel and then the Faceless Men, they’d turned her into a killer.

That’s what this was- a kill, another notch in her belt. True, the Night King had never been on her list, but in order to get to the rest of her list, she needed to go through him to survive.

She didn’t expect the accolades, to be treated like a heroine. She’d just done what anyone who’d had her training would do in her place. It wasn’t anything to be glorified.

Now that the Long Night had ended and she still drew breath, she couldn’t stay at Winterfell and bask in the adulation of the people she had indirectly saved.

There was still one name on her list.

It was time to go to Kings Landing, time to kill Cersei Lannister.

Lucy/Mina - Dracula (TV 2013)

It's dark when Mina wakes and there's a cold hunger in her belly. She turns over and finds a gold swath of Lucy's finely brushed hair braided and bathed in moonlight. Lucy's dark eyes open with her slow movements, smile shining through the shadows. The sharpness to her teeth as her lips take back make her heart quicken and Mina pulls the covers tighter.

"Watching me sleep?" Mina whispers.

"Not sleeping," Lucy speaks to her mind. But even in her head Lucy's tone is teasing, gentle and inviting. "Neither are you."

"Well not now." Mina says. "You don't have to stay here, if you'd rather be out there. With her." She can feel the growl in her chest at the thought of Lucy out there with that woman.

"That'll never be true, lovely Mina." Aloud her voice is deep but, soft and wistful. She raises a hand to cup Mina's cheek and leans in. "I may not sleep when you do, but I would watch you all night, if you'll let me."

Mina's blush is hidden in the night's shadow, but Lucy senses the quickening of her heartbeat. There's a scent of copper twisted with the scent of Mina's rose bathwater that's too divine not to inhale. She takes a long unneeded breath in, leaning in to press a light kiss on Mina's lips. Under the covers, she finds Mina's hand and clasps it in hers.

Despite her speedy heart, Mina shivers at the brush of Lucy's cold lips and chill fingers.

"I may never get used to that."

"The kiss?" Lucy asks, nerves tugging at her chest.

Mina pulls Lucy's hand to her chest, against her warm skin and rapid pulse. "The chill," she answers.
