Half A Moon Day 5: Miranda Barlow Appreciation Post

Miranda Barlow is one of my favorite characters. She's definitely my favorite character on Black Sails. She's inspired a lot of fic for me. If the fic doesn't have an element of Miranda appreciation to it then it's not for me, in this fandom. (I also really love Max and Anne on this show, but the trajectory for Miranda just speaks to me in an intense way.)

There is so much LGBT representation on this show, and it really shows how LGBT people make it work (or don't). I just LOVE this little show, which was able to complete its arc as intended (mostly) and just...I love it.

Here are some Miranda Barlow recs. The theme of The City is pretty central to her arc and I've been dying to make this rec post. Some will be my fic, and some will be recs. All are spoilery so basically, if you want to read them I advise being caught up on Black Sails S2 minimum. If you've seen her whole arc you can read any of these without spoilers.

Notes: Written a few days before the start of Half A Moon. My Black Sails fan group ran a first person challenge. I have to admit to being heavily influenced to do this by this amazing fic rec above. But Miranda will forever and always be my favorite.

Also as an aside, I'm doing Fandom Trumps Hate this year, and I signed up with the option of writing Supernatural or Black Sails fic. In my heart of hearts I really kind of would love it if someone bid on me to try to throw together more of a backstory for the OFC in my headcanon rec (Harriet). :) If you want to see me write more femmeslash, just know that's an option this year. (Apologies for self-promotion here--I've been gone from fandom for a while and wanna make sure people know I am back.)

Black Sails is another show I really want to watch. I appreciate how halfamoon posts remind me which fandoms I've been curious about for years. :D (Carnivale is yet another one!)

Aw, good luck to you too, I'm sure you'll do great! :) I participated in fandomaid when it was still active (and possibly in other similar events that I can't remember right now?), but I mostly made fanmixes. (Which was a lot of fun and I would totally do it again, but I'm out of the loop re: how do you currently host/link/otherwise share the actual music.) This is my first time drawing for a charity auction and I'm actually quite excited. :D

I did a fanmix for this Half A Moon that I'll be posting! I LOVE making playlists and I hadn't in a while until it was the holidays and then I made a bunch and I just felt so much better...

Ohh, awesome! :D I made so many fanmixes back when you still made a zip file and uploaded it to a file hosting site, lol, and then I stopped because the new options confused me. (I would totally link the old fanmixes in halfamoon because I love them, but as cool as all the lyrics and pictures and stuff are, they lack the actual music because the downloads expired.) Like, I only just found out that Spotify is not paid, or at least doesn't have to be? I feel like a dinosaur, omg, but I'm so gonna figure it all out eventually! :P

The other month I found an old mix for a 2009 (I think?) Big Bang and I legit cried tears of nostalgia and joy... I happen to know the person who did that left fandom and it was permanent... so it was amazing that I found this!

I can relate so much to this - I still cry nostalgic happy tears for some stuff from 2002 (I still keep in touch with some of the people, and we are nostalgic together :D but we don't do fandom things together anymore) and 2006 (I completely lost touch with everybody from that time). ❤

Oh gods, me too. *offers hugs if you want them* Sometimes I kinda just go "it's been over a decade for both of these things, nearly two decades for the first one, and yet it still feels like yesterday, and why in the world do I miss this stuff so much?". Like, just a few months ago I decided to stop listening to a song because it brought me back to a time of pretty horrible, destructive drama and at one point my brain went "I miss that drama too, I want it back!", and I just decided it wasn't healthy to keep listening to it.

Aww, I would love to! I added you. :) I haven't posted for years, which feels weird because when lj was still alive I used to make one post a day, but later it also felt weird to post... So I just didn't. And now I think I'm actually ready to come back (mostly thanks to halfamoon, tbh).
