Rec meme! You ask for recs and others provide.

All fandoms and all types of fanworks are welcome, as well as rec requests for sources or for certain tropes, as long as it's woman-centric.

Feel free to self rec.

Have fun!

Canons with female leads in high-stakes, secretive, potentially-world-saving occupations that never hit you with a "characters object to torture on moral grounds, but it's a legitimate source of good intel if you're ruthless enough to use it" scene?

I've recently been disappointed on that count by Scandal, Continuum, and Warehouse 13 (which has one character say it's not a reliable source of intel, it's just that nobody seems to believe him, and apparently he's getting fired for standing by it). Most of my favorite series are SF/F, but I'm also willing to give non-genre stuff a shot!

I feel you've probably read it, but Warren Ellis's Global Frequency series? Miranda Zero and Aleph sound right up your alley.

[If you want to ruin your entire existence, track down the 2005 pilot with Michelle Forbes as Miranda Zero, and weep.]

I don't read a lot of Western comics, so I've never seen this, no. Will be checking it out!

Oh, awesome! I really hope you enjoy it.

[I can link you to the pilot, if you like. All kidding aside, it's excellent, and won't spoil you for anything in the comics.]

Wow, Michelle Forbes! I never heard of this but now I really have to check it out! (Also, the comic book series sounds very cool!)

She's so excellent! I've loved her ever since Ro Laren, and she was wonderfully malicious as Admiral Cain, and I was so sad the Global Frequency pilot didn't get picked up because she was amazing. She's really perfect casting for Miranda, who kicks ass, doesn't need names, and knows what happened in Tecumseh.

[I've, uh, only read the first few issues of the comics, keep meaning to pick it back up, but it's very good and devoid of a lot of Ellis's usual problematic stuff.]

What the heck, I shall self-rec.

Adaptive Coloration, a Five Things story about Susan Pevensie from Narnia. Because she was way more awesome than Lewis let on.

HL's Tessa Noel?

Does anyone have favorite Tessa Noel (Highlander: The Series) fanfiction to recommend? Duncan/Tessa romances would be wonderful, too; the recs don't have to be gen!

I suspect that one of the reasons that Tessa is so woefully neglected in HL fanfiction is that she's really very challenging to write. Her voice is unique and bounded in a cultural slice that's a bit distant from many fanwriters' comfort zones. It would be such a delight to discover a writer who really captured Tessa, and perhaps even did it story after story!

Wishing for the proverbial pony... :-)

Lost in Translation by Domenika Marzione - Teyla isn't the only alien in Atlantis. Earth and Pegasus are incommensurable in not-obvious ways. (gen)
Second Verse (Same as the First) by sholio - "The Marines call it the Planet of the Willing Virgins, you know." It's the "willing" part that's debatable. (gen)
Songs of Athos by sholio - Teyla discovers Earth music -- and rediscovers her own. (gen)
