Women of Power Rangers Celebration Post

On December 26, 2009 of last year, Power Rangers had concluded and with it, the tons of awesome characters and plots that have lived with us since childhood. Among these great characters were many excellent women. From the most heroic rangers from Trini and Kimberly all the way to Summer and Gemma; from the greatest villains like Rita Repulsa to Teneya 7; from the greatest sidekicks like Ms. Fairweather, Fran, and Dr. K. Power Rangers was filled with kickass and interesting and heartbreaking women, with enough range in personalities to appeal to almost all viewers.

 

To celebrate them, I shall take inspiration from the Doctor Who Celebration Post and create a love thread/celebration thread. From Mighty Morphin to RPM, choose any female character and leave a comment with the name of the female character in the subject line. Then you could start a thread say how much everyone else loves said character, their best moments or lines, fic recs, drabbles, picspams, etc, etc. You could even start a thread about one shot women that have left you with a great impression, though you’d have to specify the episode/season where they have appeared in.

 

The rules are same as the one for the DW Post; if you don’t like a certain female character, THEN STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM THEIR THREAD!!! This is a happy, positive celebration, so either ignore the disliked characters and go to the ones you love, or don’t comment at all. That goes for subtle jabs at other characters as well (“OMG, I heart Katherine so much, she doesn’t at least get kidnapped once an episode!”).

Heh, sorry for the spam, can you tell LG is one of my favourite seasons? :) I was always sad that High Councillor Renier didn't get more screentime because I find her fascinating. I love that she's tough and doesn't take any crap, but that she's also a voice of reason among calls for harsher reactions to events around them. I love that she gets to be, in effect, the head of the Council on an intergalactic journey into the unknown, how awesome is that? <3

I love how she got tapped to be one of the veterans in Overdrive and what a great job she did in the episode that made me start watching Power Rangers again. And I liked her in the tiny bit of DT that I've watched.

Oh Vida. She was a force the be reckoned with. Strong as any male, she would go toe-to-toe with anyone in her path. But under all of that, she was shown to be very compassionate, warm, loving and supportive of her best friends. (Xander and Chip) She was strong enough in herself and her love for others she would sacrifice herself to save everyone else (told that to Chip in Stranger Within Part One, the reason I fell in love with them and the season) They brought out the tenderness she didn't like to show. But if you crossed her or her Sister, she'd come after you with a wrath the likes of any villain didn't even matter if you were the leader of the team(concerning Maddie in Rock Solid). She is my first and only likable Pink (I've not seen Jen yet but heard great things) she made me like the color and she pulled off hot pink hair!

God another Yellow I couldn't get enough of. Towards the end her character went a bit WTF-ery but when we were first shown her at the Academy I was stunned at the fast and ferocious attacks she unleashed. She was strong if not stronger than he male counter parts in given moments and could handle weapons amazingly. She was bright and wonderful, I loved to watch her dance and to mock RJ, which she did very well. She was another "one of the guys" who was able to do it and not care and pulled it off well.

For the first half of the season (until the last probably 4) she was one of the best characters ever given to us in Power Rangers. For me the best episode of Power Rangers ever was changed from "Stranger Within Part One" to "Doctor K".

She was a small girl with a horrible past and horrible secrets who suffered a terrible loss and was burdened with the guilt that her creation destroyed the world. Instead of suffering and crawling in a hole, she created one of the first truly spectacular teams.

People could say she was cold, distant, a bitch, etc but its clear from her episode, why she was and that she was capable of shedding tears of sorrow and that she loved her friends deeply and tried to shield herself from the pain of loss by not getting close to anyone. She didn't let her feelings get in the way of what she had to do though her ending was way out of left field she could have done so much more.

This is an extremely tamed down fangirl post. I adore her more than any other PR character ever. She's tied with Vida, Kira and Lily as my top girl.

Kelsey was so awesome. She had such awesome subtext with other women in LR, and she was such a great friend to her team. And I loved the comedy moments we'd get from Kelsey rocketing around the Aquabase in her rollerblades.

God, Dana. Dana fills out her uniform and her swimsuit oh so very well and I love noticing that. (Especially when she's at attention.) Plus she was smart, kick ass, and had the dorkiest sense of humour. I also loved her sibling relationship with Ryan, they were so sweet.

Marina was fun because she brought out a sweet side to Chad, and helped him get over his problems with talking to girls. Plus, she was a very proactive princess, risking going on land to save her kingdom. <3

Ah, Angela. Brains and beauty. I love how, despite her attraction to Joel, she wouldn't just settle for a fling, she held out until Joel saw her as a person. And I love that she DESIGNED everything from the morphers to the Zords. And she wasn't afraid to do field work, or give orders, acting as a second in command to Captain Mitchell.

Vypra was actually seriously bad ass. She was the only demon general who, when going face to face with the Rangers, didn't get her ass kicked on a regular basis. Nearly every plot she spearheads would have succeeded, had it not been for a Ranger suddenly pulling an emotional epiphany. And, in the end, despite being absorbed into Queen Bansheera and blown up/torn apart by the minions, she managed to claw her way out of the underworld and unleash a demon that took TWELVE Rangers to defeat.

I loved Jen. She was so kick ass and an awesome leader. And just as adorable when fangirling over Frankie Chen. She had such a wonderful arc with her grief over losing Alex, and then falling for Wes. And god, when she showed up in the WF/TF crossover. Just, yum. Bad ass, black leather, and a whole lotta guns.

Wild Force wasn't the best season all in all, but it still had some good moments (and that's without counting the team-ups). Among them was Shayla unexpectedly showing off her moves to Toxica. 'You can fight?'

By the end of Wild Force, she (and to a lesser degree Jindrax) was the only reason I was still watching. Her ending is kind of bullshit, but mostly in that I had to watch the finale without her there.
