(Um, I'm in the mood for comfort fic. If that works.)

Date: 2010-02-02 04:42 am (UTC)Anyway, comfort fic:
"You should rest," Laura urged her. Kate resisted, though she was quite tired and feeling the need for some privacy after so many days spent in worry and watching, and the queen was now sleeping soundly. But Laura was insistent, tugging upon her arm until Kate was dragged from the queen's chamber. "I will stay with her. You need some time to yourself, Kate, or we risk you becoming ill in turn."
Kate glared. "Your husband has rubbed off on you too much." Laura's eyes danced with mirth and Kate held up a hand to forestall whatever joke her friend was about to make. "You are sure you will be all right? The baby..."
Laura patted her still-flat stomach. "We're fine. Go bathe, rest. You can make it up to me in six months, when my ankles have swollen fat and my back is aching." She pushed on Kate's back firmly. "Be gone from here."
Kate tipped forward, only to fall right into Marcus with a timing that they could not have achieved had they been trying.
It was a guess as to which of them turned brighter red while Laura giggled behind them.

Date: 2010-02-04 04:30 am (UTC)It was the slightly pissed off look that was her downfall. She could've resisted cute, but the way the puppy just looked at her as if to say, "Well, it's ABOUT TIME you got here to pick me up!" did her in.
Her eyebrows went up, her forehead wrinkled and she realized the slightly shaggy looking Maltese might very well be her dog avatar in some way.
When the dog rejected dog food and demanded tuna fish only on Tuesdays, she knew she was right.

I know what you like ;)
Date: 2010-02-02 05:17 am (UTC)She tucks a damp curl behind her ear self-consciously. It's not like she can just plug her tiny travel hair dryer into a wall outlet, and there hasn't been time to ask the science staff to do something as trivial as build a converter to run her hair dryer. Not with scary new aliens and the city almost drowning and all.
She shoots Sheppard a look, hoping that will get him off her back.
He fires back with a "hey who me" look that morphs into something almost salacious as he continues to eye the curly mess on her head.
To her infinite horror, she blushes. Dammit, she will not do this with him. She manages to call up a glare despite her flushed cheeks and after one final moment of watching her blush, Sheppard turns to give McKay his full attention. Elizabeth follows suit, trying to concentrate on whatever new crisis had arisen to get them up at oh-God-hundred hours rather than the heat in her cheeks, or the way her damp hair tickles the nape of her neck insistently.

Date: 2010-02-05 12:44 am (UTC)She's slightly alarmed when Kate says it's "kind of important" that Elizabeth stop by her quarters this evening. Kate's only just returned from rehab on Earth after her injuries and Elizabeth worries that there's something about her recovery Kate hadn't mentioned.
When she arrives, though, Elizabeth finds Kate sitting with Teyla, Miko, Laura and a few of the other women from the medical staff. And they're all grinning at her conspiratorially.
Without further explanation, Kate shoves a piece of chocolate at her. "Taste this."
Elizabeth wonders if some sort of alien influence might be at work. On the other hand, chocolate. She bites off a piece. Laura turns to ask Teyla something while Elizabeth eats. At first she just chews, but as the chocolate melts onto her tongue, her eyes widen. Her heart speeds up a little and she can almost feel the endorphin buzz start to cascade through her system.
Her boyfriend used to accuse her of being a chocolate snob. Elizabeth had eaten high quality fine Swiss chocolates once and never settled for cheap Hersheys bars again unless she had absolutely no other recourse. She even tried some of the exotic blends of particular kinds of African or South American cocoa beans.
This blows them all out of the water.
Kate is grinning at her when Elizabeth clears her throat, tries to compose herself and then gives up. "My God, what is this?"
"Organic chocolate." She offers Elizabeth a bar with a heavy paper label, one of an entire case Elizabeth now notices sitting on Kate's bed. "My Mom has gotten heavy into the organic, local food movement, and she had this at home. I totally got hooked. When I got word I was coming back, especially just before Valentine's Day, I bought a whole box to bring with me."
"I still say this is just going to ruin us," Laura teased. "How am I supposed to care about winning a generic waxy chocolate bar at poker when this is out there?"
Elizabeth ignored the byplay to eat the rest of her piece and began to plot how she could convince Stargate Command that organic chocolate was a new requirement for the survival of the Atlantis expedition.

The engraving and painting process is time-consuming but the results are worth it. The graceful feathers arc across the individual blades, not visible in their complete beauty unless the fan is fully extended, exactly like the feathers of the dangerous tiger birds of the Fire Nation.

I have no Janet icons.
Date: 2010-02-05 01:02 am (UTC)So their first meeting wasn't auspicious. He was holding a gun on her friend and the planet's sunlight was hurting them all and the Wraith could've shown up at any moment. Janet never blinked, of course. She got the transmitter out like it was nothing.
Then everything was new and strange and he spent a lot of nights running or walking through the city alone, trying to get the fear and the impulse to run out of his system.
His nocturnal trips often ended near the infirmary. She wasn't always there, but some nights she was still up, watching over a patient or working on paperwork.
He'd sit. They'd talk - well, she would talk, about her daughter, her home, her friends. Sometimes he'd tell her little things about Sateda, or Pegasus. They talked about missions, about the expedition members. Gossiped, even, though he didn't want to call it that.
Then one night, as he got up to go, she shot him a smile, one that made his skin tingle and his stomach lurch unexpectedly. "You can come talk to me during the day sometime, you know."

Date: 2010-02-05 12:49 am (UTC)She's not afraid. She's not angry, or anxious. This is a different sensation than Katara in those moods. She's actually nervous now.
It's kind of mind-boggling. Katara's a master waterbender already, she's traveled the world with the Avatar, fought battles and faced down the prince of the Fire Nation, and here she's nervous about sneaking into a fancy party.
She almost says something, because it's kind of funny. But it also makes Katara suddenly human, rather than the bossy older sister Toph never really wanted and sometimes could live without. And it reminds her Katara's really not that much older than her.
They're almost to the front of the line anyway, so Toph shrugs it off and fingers the token with her family's crest on it, and concentrates on the people around them, just in case the guards chuck them out of the line, or worse.

Date: 2010-02-05 12:54 am (UTC)It would be easier to make this decision if she could get the damn song out of her head. If she could consider the pros and cons (not write them down; she's not Rory) she could maybe figure out what to do about this job offer.
Right. Think. On the one hand, Europe. On the other, not Stars Hollow. Friday night dinner versus... okay no down side there. Fine dining versus Sookie's pancakes. Cathedrals and palaces and gardens versus her newly renovated house and her new bed with the heated mattress pad for winter...
The song comes back, though, constantly intruding, a relentless invasion into her mind. There's only one thing to do with an earworm this bad. She hits speed dial on her cell phone. Unfortunately she gets Rory's voice mail, but that doesn't stop her from singing.
"You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both, and then you have The Facts of Life, the Facts of Life..."

Date: 2010-02-05 02:45 am (UTC)Jo Harvelle, existence, any (gen, f/f, het, whatever
if it involves her and Laura Cadman blowing things up...)no subject
Date: 2010-02-05 03:25 am (UTC)Jo paused as she got out of the rental car. Earth smelled weird, especially after a couple years in a place without pollution of any kind. That wasn't why she was pausing, though.
It was stupid, really. Jo reminded herself that she'd traveled to another galaxy, come face to face with a Wraith Queen and once been the object of Elizabeth Weir's wrath. Compared to these things, facing her Mom should be easy.
Then again, family stuff probably trumped mortal peril, especially when your family stuff often involved mortal peril.
She was back on Earth for what amounted to a TDA, even though she wasn't officially military. She sure as hell wasn't a scientist, and in Atlantis, you either palled around with the geeks or with the military, unless you were dating someone, or you were Colonel Sheppard. Jo had been around Marines almost non-stop for a long time. Though she wondered if she was thinking of this trip as temporary to comfort herself that she would indeed be going back, when this was all over.
If it ended. Without ending all existence. Colonel Carter hadn't thought that was likely, but then it wasn't every day they got a message from the SGC saying somebody other than SG-1 had started the apocalypse.
Jo had a feeling she knew who "somebody" was in this case, otherwise they wouldn't have sent her.
Whoever was inside the house had probably spotted her by now and was wondering why she was standing outside, so Jo swung her duffel bag out of the car and headed for the door, realizing she was probably in for at least water spots on her clothes. Hopefully neither her mom or Bobby would throw the holy water right on her face.
Nothing like being home again.
