Day 6 - Fic - OZ (HBO) - Diane Wittlesey
Feb. 6th, 2026 06:26 amTitle: After DeeDee
Fandom: OZ (HBO)
Character: Diane Wittlesey
Rating: Teen
Word Count: 306
Summary: Her world changed after DeeDee was born
Her life could have been divided into two parts- before DeeDee and after DeeDee. Before her daughter was born, Diane had run wild, spending weekends on the road with Rick and his biker buddies, doing things that she'll caution DeeDee about as soon as she's old enough to date. There was a freedom in it.
With DeeDee came responsibility, came focus. She was determined to give her daughter a better life than the one she had. She was determined to be someone that her daughter could look up to. She couldn't do that with the life she had now. She left Rick and moved in with her mother. It wasn't an ideal situation but it was all Diane had and she knew DeeDee would be better off with her grandmother than her louse of a father.
She took a job at Oswald. She caught flack from her mother about working long hours, but the way she saw it, the double shifts would pay for everything that DeeDee needed. She'd be home on the weekend to spend plenty of quality time with her daughter and not have to worry about finding a second job to cover the bills. As far as she could see, it was a decent solution.
Then the prison decided to abolish overtime, so no more double shifts for her. She had to make up the lost income somehow, so when Scott Ross offered her a deal- a percentage of the sale of contraband cigarettes that she would bring in, she couldn't say 'no'.
After DeeDee was born, Diane's world had shifted. There was nothing that she wouldn't do to ensure that her daughter grew up with more opportunity than she had. And if Diane had to break a rule or two to make sure of it, she didn't have a problem with that.
