Summary: Post-series. Dawn and Faith go camping
“What was that?” Faith asked, looking around as she heard a rustle in the branches overhead.
“Probably just a bird,” Dawn replied for what felt like the seventeenth time. She thought this little camping getaway would be a fun way for her and Faith to spend time together. As she cleared the hiking path in front of them she was really beginning to have second thoughts.
“Do you know where we're going?”
“The brochure said the lake was this way.” She figured they had to be getting near water because Faith's muttering was increasingly interrupted by slapping noises as the mosquitoes made their presence known.
“I swear these bugs are finding spots on me where we didn't spray.”
“They're probably landing, not bit- Ow!”
“You had one on your neck. Little bloodsuckers are worse than vamps. Can't stake 'em.”
“True. Do you want to go back?”
“Nah. We've come all this way. Might as well see what all the fuss is about.”
“That's the spirit.”
They walked on a bit further and came to a clearing. Sunlight reflected off the lake and they could hear water lapping against the shore as they took in the view.
“Wow,” Faith said, wrapping her arms around Dawn.
“Good idea?” Dawn asked.
“The best.”
