Day 10: seasons, Yellowjackets, Natalie
Feb. 11th, 2024 07:54 pmTitle: One Year Gone
Fandom: Yellowjackets
Characters: Natalie
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers all through S2
Summary: Summer's come around again, which logically should be easier, yet it brings the realisation that they've been stranded for a year.
Logically, they should be happier now that the long winter has passed and summer is here; for one thing, that should make it easier for Natalie to hunt animals again.
Yet at the same time, summer also brings with it the realisation that they’ve been stranded for a year now, something that’s caused them to lose hope in a way nothing else has quite succeeded in doing. By now, they’re probably a five minute segment on the news about the one year anniversary of the plane crash; active search parties are bound to have stopped long since. Travis was talking the other day about how it was a year since he’d lost his father, that even though they hadn’t always had the best relationship, the guy was still his father, he still had some good memories of him, and he needed time to process the anniversary. Natalie hadn’t been sure quite how to respond to that; when her own father’s anniversary had come up, not that long before they boarded the plane, she’d just got hammered with Kevyn to blot it out, passing out and waking up on the Tans’ bathroom floor the next morning. There hadn’t been any good memories that she had wanted to remember.
He'd talked about how he wished he could talk to Javi about it, and Natalie hadn’t known what to say about that either, because it had been her own actions in winter that had meant Travis could never talk to Javi again, something Travis still didn’t know the whole story behind.
They’re all finding it harder now the anniversary has come round; Akilah was in tears yesterday about the amount of her nephew’s life she had missed, Shauna was upset over Jackie’s birthday, and Misty’s been struggling since the thawing of the snow led to Crystal’s body being uncovered.
Natalie won’t give up hope; she’ll continue leading the survivors, hunting with Travis, finding some way to get them rescued if at all possible. Maybe summer will be the season that will bring them all home again.
