halfamoon day 4 - magic
Feb. 4th, 2019 09:14 pmTitle: Sufficiently Analysed Magic
To the ancient inhabitants of Tercia Lumireis, Rita mused, the abilities of the Children of the Full Moon must have seemed like magic. The wonders of aer manipulation probably appeared rather an arcane art in and of itself, even if it could be explained by the use of a Blastia, which would have been seen as some kind of sorcerous contraption to the majority of the population without even the most basic understanding of it. For someone to be able to control aer without a Blastia... science today couldn't fully explain it, or at least, none except her own theories that she was only coming up with right now after careful thought and examination. To a prehistoric human, such a thing would seem like the work of an angel or demon. An entelexia, the entities that were also still fairly unknown because of their secrecy and distrust of humans, would also seem like a deity incarnate. No wonder there'd been wars and other global tragedies over their existence. It occurred to Rita, then, that there were factors in the whole thing that even she didn't understand. The precise nature of her bond with Estelle, for example. It had gone far beyond the most burning scientific curiosity. The thoughts in her head when she watched the Princess were not those of a researcher with a specimen - and she had to admit that the other scholars were right, she did tend to treat people like laboratory animals most of the time. She had no training and no patience with anything more socially complicated - probably why she was at a complete loss for ideas right now. She knew what Estelle was now. She'd observed the patterns of her aer signatures, taken plenty of samples. So why did she still feel so determined to follow Estelle to the end, no matter the danger it got her in, as if it was spiritually impossible for the two of them to part again? Was it the gravity of a situation that had grown to involve the entire world, or...?
As she realised that the Princess was looking at her in return, she blushed and looked the other way. She did not see Estelle do the same.
