Do you know an exchange, fest, challenge, etc. focused on female characters? Whether it's running now or later in the year, advertise it in the comments and help interested people find it.
rarelywritten (formerly rarewomen) is coming up soon. It got its start as an exchange for rare female characters — both rarely written women in big fandoms and all women in small fandoms. This year the scope has been expanded to include all rare characters of underrepresented sexes or genders (e.g. trans* and genderqueer characters), though I would guess the vast majority of nominated and written characters will still be those who identify as women, so it should be of interest to folks here!
If you like f/f, there's femslash february running on tumblr right now, and you can still get bingo cards from femtropebingo, though you'd be a week late in finishing by the end of the month.
Later in the year, I co-mod femslashex, which is a art and fic exchange for all femslash fandom pairings, original characters, and quite a bit of the genderqueer spectrum. Nominations usually start in August or so.
