ext_108: Jules from Psych saying "You guys are thinking about cupcakes, aren't you?" (meta: reading comics)

Ever since Xena and Buffy broke out and became hits, we have a lot more tv shows with female leads-- and even shows where the main relationships are between women. But there's still a ways to go before there's as many shows starring women as there are men.

So here's my question(s) for discussion:

1) If you could take one female character, who's not the lead of her own show, and *make* a spinoff show where now she actually *is* the lead character, who would it be? And what would the show be about? (For comics, insert "spinoff comic" and for books insert "spinoff book series" here.)

I have a few that I can't choose between:

From Stargate: Atlantis, I would be interested in a spinoff show about Sora, the Genii soldier, being a spy and sneaking around the galaxy blowing up Wraith and collecting intelligence. It would sort of be like Alias in that she could never really trust her superiors, and probably at some point she would go rogue. Teyla would be in the show as her mysterious antagonist that shows up once or twice a season to dispense information, and she can't really be trusted, but they have mad UST together.

From Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I'd watch a show about Tara being a helpful spirit and having adventures on different metaphysical planes of existence, possibly in the past or the future, and helping people and then moving on-- maybe a little like Quantum Leap where she can't control where she goes or what her mission is, and just has to do the best she can.

From Firefly, I would love to watch a "prequel" type tv-movie about Zoe, showing us her childhood, her life in the military, meeting Mal and Wash, and more about how Zoe and Wash fell in love. (Or maybe I just want someone to write that story. *G*)

What about you guys?

BtVS: Faith kicking ass and being remarkably hot.

Doctor Who: I might be the only one on this, but I really wanted to see the Rose Tyler: Earth Defence mini, and was pissed that RDM cancelled it, especially for the reasons he stated.

PotC: Tia Dalma living in the swamp, casting spells and making deals, possibly in combination with the above Anamaria idea.

Life on Mars: Annie Cartwright, post Sam and Gene, rising in the police force and, possibly, eventually running the place.

No, you are not the only one who was majorly pissed off when the plans for Rose Tyler: Earth Defence were cancelled. IIRC, I even made a pretty angry post to [livejournal.com profile] rose_lives about it.

And WORD to your proposal for an Annie-centric Life on Mars-sequel!

So many people have already come up with stuff I'd really like to see (Tara the spirit guide, Zoe the Big Damn Heroine, Faith the Vampire Slayer, Lilah the lawyer, River the girl no power in the 'verse can stop, Dawn the Watcher...), but I'd probably have paid good money for an AU version of Angel as well. You know, the one where Cordelia is a rising actress who starts being a supernatural girl detective on the side. Without being elevated to pseudo-sainthood and impregnated by demons.

Man, seeing this comment made me feel sad and angry about Cordy's fate all over again. Detective Cordelia would have been so wonderful.

Well, I can't decide whether her plotline was better or worse than what the writers did to poor Fred. And I don't even like Fred that much.

I would love more Tara and Zoe.

Also, Faith the Vampire Slayer, preferably with a motorcycle and a large weapons cache.

From DS9, Kira Nerys: the War Years. Yeah, we got a lot of backstory in the series, but you can't have too much Kira.

Or too much Tasha Yar. I still say Sela could have been lying when she said she'd been killed. A miniseries about Yar in hiding on Romulus, trying to make her way back to the Federation? Yes, please.

My dream show will always be a show all about Irina Derevko either pre-Alias or post (ignore the finale that never happened). Just Irina doing spy stuff with flashbacks and plotting out master plans all over the place. Lots of guest stars or regulars of Jack, Katya and Sydney of course. And set in NY so Lena is happy. That would be my personal heaven.

Also a spin off of Grey's Anatomy of Cristina Yang at her own hospital or in college/medical school would be wonderful.

There's a character in the anime GetBackers called Clayman, who's an art thief. I'd love a series about her adventures.

I'd also have adored The Secret Adventures of Rebecca Fogg.

Faith the Vampire Slayer (which I want so much, I'm writing it. One episode done, one hundred and nine to go...)

Adding my support for ghost Tara. If only votes could get these shows, both this and Zoe would be filming *right now*.

She-Hulk. Something that manages to have Buffy- and Byrne-esque humor, the realism of the most recent incarnation, and the borderline darkness of the original. The polar opposite of Single Female Lawyer. I'd gnaw off my own leg to see the Joss Whedon treatment, but at this point I'm just holding out hope it'll be done halfway decent before I die.

Radical Edward (Cowboy Bebop).

(I got nothing else -- I'm way out of the loopy when it comes to any current TV, since I only watch Dexter, Terminator and House. And the last House I watched was the S3 premiere and I haven't seen anything since because I'm waiting until I have everything I'm missing so I can catch up on all of it at once, or close to it.)
