Subject: Riley Dawson (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)
(SPOILERS)
Riley is a character who was both dismissed (for interfering with a popular pairing, I suppose) and criticized (for being "fridged"), but as depressing as the end of her arc was, I think her role in that universe was an important one: the pawn and consummate survivor. She's the unwilling recruit in an apocalyptic war, and despite her feelings for John and Jesse, I think her greatest driving force was the wish to stay alive. It's a thankless role to be the cannon fodder, but Riley made me care for her, as yet another girl in that war - not an officer like Jesse or a machine like Catherine and Cameron or a warrior like Sarah, just a girl and still a fighter to the very end.
