There are many ways to get an education. Learning is something that doesn't stop when school is out. Who is the teacher? Who is the student? And what is being taught?

Please do not feel constrained by the themes. Anything focusing on women is welcome. You can post your work directly to the comm or as a comment on this post.

Vidder Summary: SPOILER WARNINGS Star Wars The Clone Wars and Rebels
This is a tribute to a former Jedi Ahsoka Tano.

This vid is in the format of a character tribute, and as such, it is a great character primer for Ahsoka Tano, covering her story from The Clone Wars through Rebels. It showcases her padawan training and her bond with Anakin Skywalker. While she ultimately leaves the Jedi Order, her Jedi education instills in her the ideals that ultimately lead to some of the more significant acts of rebellion against the Empire.

Liz Ortecho is a biomedical researcher who returns to her home town, but keeps up her science skills by doing dubiously ethical alien science research. She actually comes back to Roswell because her research project back in Colorado lost its funding. She works on a research project at Roswell General and for a biomedical engineering company over the course of the show. Her discoveries do save the lives of her friends, but her methods are questionable. Hence why I love her. She's one step away from being a mad scientist and grapples with her own morals at several points during the show. But no one can deny that Liz is highly educated and has some crazy skills!

At the beginning of season 4, she works as a science teacher at the high school for students trying to get their GED. She recognizes herself in a girl named Vanessa, and tries to be a mentor to her. I think it's an interesting nod to the original Roswell series. Here are a few icons of Liz as a teacher!

Title: Words are Hard
Day/Prompt: Day 4 / Education
Fandom: Willow (TV)
Character/Pairing: Elora Danan & Kit Tanthalos
Rating/Warning(s): G / None
Word Count: 534
Summary: SAT prep is everyone's least favourite subject, but at least Elora is there to help Kit through it, even when she herself isn't all that great with those big words.
A/N: I'm not from the US and have no idea how SAT's actually work but I found a list of the words you're supposed to learn online and this seemed like a funny premise for a story about these two, so, here we are.

Three pre-existing works of mine that fit today's prompt, all on AO3, all G/Teen-rated, all gen or mostly so, all fairly short. [Aside to mods: Castle appears not to have a fandom tag.]

Five College Careers Alexis Castle Might Consider (And the Consequences Thereof)
Castle (with dashes of Buffyverse & NCIS)

What it says on the tin - a Five Things piece speculating about Alexis' choice of college, including two that lead into crossover territory. (Do read the comments; actual students/alums from two of the schools mentioned chimed in.)

Career Day

NCIS/Sarah Jane Adventures

Abby is just packing up her "Career Day" booth at a local high school when an English transfer student happens by - and the conversation takes an unexpected direction. Inspired by a series of stories by Azar featuring Abby as a past companion of the Doctor's.

A Little Self-Knowledge
Nancy Drew (books)

Similar in subject matter to the Castle piece, though here Nancy (very lightly updated to the present day from the yeilow-spine books) is discussing college plans with her Aunt Eloise over lunch. Both Ned Nickerson and the Hardy boys come up in the conversation, albeit for different reasons.

For today's theme I thought it would be nice to make a rec list for Barbara Wright: original Doctor Who companion, history teacher, and crusher of Daleks with a truck. It was hard to keep this list to a reasonable length--or it would have been, if not that AO3 went down for a bit in the middle of making it! XD

Footprints in History (5409 words) by ThisNothingInTheMiddle
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who, Doctor Who (1963), Doctor Who (Big Finish Audio)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Barbara Wright, Evelyn Smythe, Vicki Pallister, Sixth Doctor, First Doctor, Ian Chesterton
Additional Tags: There's not much Ian though, Sorry Chunsterton
Summary: In ancient Egypt, amidst the creation of history on the Giza plateau, Barbara Wright is approached by Dr Evelyn Smythe, who explains that they have a friend in common. Meanwhile, the Doctor runs into an old, young friend. Can they discover who is meddling with history?

Rec notes: Barbara crosses paths with fellow historian-companion Evelyn in this lovely piece with very good characterization. (And bonus Six & Vicki!) Being familiar with the Sixth Doctor helps, but the story doesn't depend on any details of his and Evelyn's adventures.

Runaway Colleague (5247 words) by paranoidangel
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright
Characters: Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence
Summary: Coming home offered Barbara Wright the chance to make a settled, secure life for herself. But there was a complication – in the shape of her ex-colleague Ian Chesterton.

It would have been easy for Barbara to seduce Ian. But not so simple to explain the secret she was keeping hidden. If Ian learned the truth, would he be so keen to reclaim his runaway colleague?

AU where only Barbara followed Susan to Totter's Lane.

Rec notes: Interesting AU (written for [community profile] unconventionalcourtship), making An Unearthly Child just that little bit more timey-wimey. And the tone is perfect.

Time to Build Up (2510 words) by IncomingAlbatross
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who, Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright
Characters: Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright
Additional Tags: Post-Serial: s016 The Chase, London 1965!, Fluff, the happy wholesome fluff they deserve, you know the montage at the end of the chase?, i'm going for that mood here, but domestic and romantic on top of the happy
Summary: Ian and Barbara coming home, preparing to take up normal lives again...but preparing together. Because that's what they do.
(And with a little unexpected help from the Doctor, as it turns out. Because that's what he does.)

Rec notes: Adorable Ian/Barbara fluff. With some companions it's hard to picture them ever being happy in a normal life again; but in this fic, for Barbara and Ian, you can see how normal life will be the adventure.

So in Front as Behind (300 words) by paranoidangel
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: First Doctor (Doctor Who), Barbara Wright
Additional Tags: Triple Drabble, TARDIS weirdness
Summary: The Doctor and Barbara's trip to the library takes an interesting turn.

Rec notes: A really cool, punchy triple-drabble (written for me!) in which Barbara discovers one of the TARDIS' less... linear areas.

a good kind of lullaby (1101 words) by lonely_is_so_lonely_alone
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Ian Chesterton/Barbara Wright
Characters: Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright
Additional Tags: Post-The Chase, After the Doctor, Readjusting, we made it! london 1965!
Summary:

Go to the house on Cardinal Street. Past the cedar trees, and under the bridge.

Go there in winter, when there is ice on panes and door creaks with the weight of the world on its shoulders.

You will find them there, in the soft living room with their old ghosts and their new clothes.

They have been here for a very long time, since the start of time.

They have only just arrived.

- Barbara and Ian after the Doctor

Rec notes: Very poetic, thoughtful sketch of life after the TARDIS.

build a staircase (2665 words) by dotsayers

Characters: Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton, Third Doctor (Doctor Who), Original Child Character(s)
Additional Tags: Reunions, Sad and Happy, During Canon, The Author Regrets Nothing
Series: Part 2 of a ready-made support system
Summary: “You always were God’s own fool, Doctor,” she said, quietly. “Why would you think we’d be anything but delighted to see you again?”

Rec notes: Another very moving glimpse at life after the TARDIS, in which the Chestertons meet the Third Doctor during his exile. Every detail is beautifully chosen.
