Inspired by
such_heights's amazing vid "Glorious", and the equally fantastic meta behind it, I was inspired to honour my girls through the magic of vidding.
My fandom loves have always been erratic - a bit of sci-fi, a lot of procedurals, many, many partnerz, slap-stick, rom-com - you name it, I've loved it.
The similar thread, however, through these fandoms has been an attraction to strong, feminine, capable women. Ever since baby's first fandom - Moonlighting, natch - to the ones I've picked up recently, the women have been charming, exciting, ravishing, intelligent, worthy, genuine, different, funny, angsty, broken, together, loving, dangerous, sexy, well-dressed, trusting, wary, brilliant and beautiful, all in their own ways, and all on their own terms.
A lot of the women in this vid are, basically, my heroes. Miss Parker and Devon Adair were the fictional influence on a growing Pieces; Doris Day, my champion for life; and recently, Dani Reese, Juliet O'Hara, Liz Lemon and yes, even Sharpay Evans - they encompass different parts of my personality, of my fandom history, for the good and the bad.
The song, "Apply Some Pressure", has the line:
What happens when you lose everything?
You just start again
Start all over again
It fits all of these women to a tee - and myself, to be frank. The song captures both the overwhelming sadness and, more importantly, the joy - and I hope I did these ladies justice in showing those emotions. I hope I showed them for the characters they truly are - and that it's okay to dress up, kick ass and have respect for themselves and others.
But enough about emotions.
such_heights said in her vid meta, "They're women, and they're glorious." Darn tooting. Let's celebrate!
(Yes, even Kathy Geiss.)
