Day 12: The End of the World as We Know It -- Leverage -- "The End of Redemption"
Title: The End of Redemption
Fandom: Leverage
Author: Cat Moon
Rating: M (mature themes, and non-explicit sex)
Prompt: Day 12: The End of the World as We Know It
Words: 479
Characters/Pairing: Sophie/Parker
Summary: Everything ends, but they never expected it to happen like this. All they can do is stay alive, search for the others, and carve out some moments of pleasure in between.
Notes: This is not a pairing I normally ship, but it's fun to give something different a try once in a while.
Warning: This fic has a dark apocalyptic theme that might sound vaguely familiar in certain ways although a lot of it is left open to interpretation. If you've been depressed, stressed, anxious, etc. lately, this may not be a fic to read right now. Proceed at your own discretion.
"I never thought it would end like this, did you?" Parker asked Sophie as they kept watch through a broken slat in the barn.
Keeping watch mostly meant being alert for the sounds of approaching danger; without electricity, the darkness beyond was only illuminated by the moon above. If they could sleep at night rather than rest during the day, it would be easier to search for the others (if they were still alive). Roving bands roamed after sundown, using the cover of darkness to ransack, destroy, and attack, sometimes with directed intent but often out of an animalistic reaction to the nightmare they now existed in. They were desperate, terrified, and angry; some took it out on anyone who crossed their path.
All the years the leverage team had devoted to taking down the corrupt rich and powerful, gaining a sense of accomplishment each time they helped the powerless get back what was stolen from them, they'd never realized that they were just throwing pebbles at an endless ocean of evil that would one day rise up and flood everything in a soul-shattering tsunami of destruction. All for greed.
In the end, they hadn't made the difference they'd wanted to.
"We still have each other," Sophie answered without answering, pulling Parker closer to begin their nightly ritual of comfort, of soft touches and muffled cries, knowing she hadn't wanted the world to burn but finally realizing what she'd needed all along was the woman in her arms.
Nothing would ever be normal again, but they had this, and Parker needed her. Reassurance, companionship, strength… love, these were all she had to give.
Parker started making little whimpers as soon as Sophie's fingers slid inside her panties.
"Shh," Sophie murmured, taking her mouth to swallow the sound, and wishing she didn't have to. She imagined what the noises would be like if it was safe to allow them to escape free. Her deft fingers slid between warm folds, teasing expertly as she guided Parker down on the pallet of hay, licking into her mouth like a woman dying of thirst.
"More, more…" Parker breathed, and Sophie complied, driving her steadily higher.
Parker was putty in her hands, desperate for distraction, pleasure, and release. Soon enough, she was shaking apart in her arms. It was easy to get her to close her eyes and slip into sleep after that.
Sophie stroked a lock of blond hair and then straightened up, returning to her watch of the blackness beyond their refuge. Parker had given the gift of herself. Sophie could only return the favor by watching over her and keeping them both alive. She wouldn't think about the future. Couldn't think about what might have happened to Hardison, Eliot, Breanna, and Harry. Only now was guaranteed.
And for now, they were both safe and together. That was a gift worth cherishing.
