Not much posting this year but a few things, all rated G except Sisters which veers into PG-13, all short pieces under 2000 words except Sisters which ends up around 77K.

Things That Shine (Susan Ivanova & Delenn)

Tales of the Alliance (Susan Ivanova & Delenn)

The Light in Her Eyes (Lyta Alexander)

Sisters Under the Skin (Anna Sheridan, Delenn, John Sheridan) (main link goes to AO3, chapter links to DW)

This is a very long story I've been working on a very long time. It's almost all Anna Sheridan's POV. Parts were written and posted two years ago, most of it was written between then and NaNo 2013 which is where I finally got it finished. I've been posting it in parts and it will all be up by the end of this month. My favorite part of this story, besides almost creating the entire character of Anna Sheridan from hints and mentions, is places where I've taken minor female characters and fleshed them out. This is what has been posted so far:

Part 1: Decision
Part 2: The Sleeper Wakes
Part 3: Whole New World
Part 4: Connection
Part 5: Fitting In
Part 6: Everything Changes
Part 7: Three's a Crowd
Part 8: The Mission

Parts 9-16 will be posted M-W-F thru February.

The half dozen female-centric fic I've written since this time last year. I'm hoping to post something new for this fest, but it's still in the works.

Fandoms: A-Team, Babylon 5, Marvel, and Sinbad )

Don't forget that [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen nominations close today tomorrow.

Mods: could I have an A-Team and a Sinbad tag?

Another oldie from me: a post I made few years ago about the female characters of Babylon 5 and why I love them all (even the ones that I don't).

And this is why everyone should watch Babylon 5

Hi,

just to prove there's more to my fanfic reading than the Whedonverse, here's a ten-pack bargain offer for you - okay there's twelve, but then one is a three-parter; there is a second one, but the ER one has three separate links, each of which could be read separately.

I didn't get done what I wanted to this year, but I love this community, and as I write female-centered fic pretty much year round, I thought I'd go ahead and link my past year's output here. Mostly Babylon 5, with one Buckaroo Banzai piece, and a Being Human short fic. Three of these were written for [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  this past year, one was my entry for [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love  month. One is an update to an epic 'Susan Ivanova and Delenn rule the Universe' story; if you end up curious the various parts are all tagged 'S&D'.

One of my favorite things about Babylon 5 is the strong, kick-ass women. They weren't used enough or to their full potential, but the show did pretty well, and filling in those gaps? That's what fic is for!

The Ship Who Squealed (B5, Susan Ivanova & Marcus Cole)

Enemy in the Mirror (B5, Delenn)

Chick Flick
(B5, Susan Ivanova & Delenn, part of The Excellent Adventures of Susan and Delenn)

Chocolate Chip Cookies (Buckaroo Banzai, Penny Priddy &  Mrs. Johnson, [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  entry)

A Nice Cup of Tea (Being Human, Annie Sawyer, [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  entry)

Never Give Up  (B5, Lise Garibaldi, [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon  entry)

Memory and Hope (B5, Anna Kellar (Anna Sheridan-to-be) & Lizzie Sheridan, [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love  month entry)

I'll Be Seeing You
(B5, Delenn) (This one is rather shippy in flashbacks, but takes place long after John Sheridan's death)

Christmas in Geneva (B5, Susan Ivanova)

Hi,

I wrote this just after last year's event, so I thought it would be appropriate as a first entry this year :-)

Title: Returning Home
Author: Kerkevik
Prompt: Written for the Circle prompt @ open_on_sunday
Rating: PG
Pairing: Femslash is implied
A/N: This is a Babylon 5 / BtVS crossover, but AU for both. It is a reduction from a story idea (originally to include the ref: "Inspired by the Circle prompt at open_on_sunday."), surrounding speculations I shared with someone I met, quite casually, about Lennier's fall from grace, and possible redemption, in S5 of Bab5 but, just for the hell of it, I decided to MasterChef''it, and turn it into a proper drabble. I'm hoping, after doing a little research on Babylon 5, to do a longer story, based on the original idea. I won't tell you what the inspiration for the format is, but as a kind of cryptic clue... let's call it a 7-inch disco remix (I'd actually be willing to pm the not-too-much-longer original form of this to anyone who's interested. Call it the contrast-and-compare DVD extra option... (Yes! I know I'm a whore! But I do work cheap, so there is that :-)...)
Characters: A Witch, Two Minbaris, and a Slayer... maybe?) (Okay, who can spot the Firefly joke hidden somewhere in there :-) ... ?
Disclaimer: None of the characters belong to me... Dang, and blast it!!!

He approached the women, wizened with age; eyes still blazing with life, nervously, yet full of hope for his redemption.

"Well Lennier," asked the ancient black-eyed witch; Delenn gripped her arm.

Bowing his head, to avoid the witches eyes, he handed her the PADD.

The witch nodded and, despite her vivid facial scarification; seemed to smile as Delenn took the PADD and asked; curious, "This is not a Minbari name."

"A nickname, beloved."

For the first time in Lennier's memory, the ancient witch Tara Maclay cried; then laughing aloud, she said, "The first Slayer on Minbar for countless generations is called Buffy!"

Hope you enjoy,
Still under Willow & Tara's spell,
Ray.

Author's Notes: Dear god and goddess, this was a trip! I really wasn't sure what I was going to do with this prompt. And then shatterpath got her dirty, greasy, smutty fingerprints into my idea, expanding it, and that was the end of that! I haven't had a chance to contribute as much as I would have liked to this round of [community profile] halfamoon, though I hope to get more in before the end. But in the meantime: Last June I hosted a HB(adass)IC poll at my journal. On the one hand, I have issues with these contests; the competitive, "there can only be one" nature of them when the only thing the characters have in common is their gender can be problematic. On the other hand, interactive celebration of Our Heroines! So we did the poll, and every time a character got voted out I drafted my friends recruited volunteers to write appreciation post/picspams for them. The result was 25 character love posts, and hopefully much fun had by all.

Nomination post, with 390 comments worth of female-character squee.

Katie Fitch and Eve Dallas appreciation posts

Elizabeth Weir and Susan Ivanova

Rose Tyler and Juliet Burke

Eowyn and Faith Lehane

Dana Scully and Number Six

For Vividcon in 2007, I VJed a show called Relationships Between Women... and last year at Vividcon I joked that if only I'd waited until 2009, I could have more than doubled the available pool of fantastic vids to choose from for this theme. So, I thought it would be fun to post the playlist from the actual show with my comments about why I chose what I did then, followed by a playlist for a virtual encore vidshow, or Relationships Between Women 2009 (if I had to do it again now). In both cases, the vids all focus on relationships between women. I tried to include as wide an emotional range and variety of relationships as possible, and the women in these vids are friends, lovers, rivals, sisters, enemies, partners, alter egos, or all of the above.

Then... )

... and now )

I've been wanting to look back at the shows with strong women characters which influenced me growing up (and which still do), so here they are. Photos are taken from wherever. I'm really sorry about not giving credit, I've just never done this before and some of these have been wandering around my hard drive for years. There are minor spoilers for Star Trek TNG and DS9, Earth: Final Conflict, Babylon 5, Firefly, Stargate: SG-1, West Wing, The X-Files, Criminal Minds, and The Wire.

To put this in perspective, I turn twenty-four this year (2009). I started watching Star Trek from about age seven or eight, then Earth: Final Conflict and X-Files around ten or eleven, Babylon 5 in early teens, and the rest spread out until all of Stargate in one long marathon this past summer and Criminal Minds and The Wire now. These ladies have really made an impact on who I turned into because I had few other strong female role models around me as a kid and teen. Certainly none in the trades, the active military, or aviation.

Cut for photos and commentary. )

Fandom: Babylon 5, Susan Ivanova/Talia Winters
Rating: Adult for sexuality
Notes: I'm somewhat prompted to post by [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn's great B5 icons, but it was written about a decade ago, after the 2nd year of B5. Many thanks to beta-reader Elaine Lazarov.
For those familiar with B5: this fills a very obvious gap in "Divided Loyalties" in one very obvious way. It's probably no better than it should be.
For readers who don't know Babylon 5: Talia Winters is a professional telepath on the B5 space station and Susan Ivanova is the station's second-in-command. Ivanova's fear and distrust of the Psi Corps, the human telepaths' controlling guild, is extreme and mostly justified after Psi Corp drove her mother to suicide. Talia has recently started working against Psi Corps, and she and Susan are developing a friendship. But these are dangerous times...
Formula disclaimer: The characters and background in this were created by J. Michael Straczynski. Whoever owns Babylon 5 now, it isn't me.

When I volunteered to create a layout for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, at first I was boggled by the idea of only picking a *few* characters to represent all of the awesome female characters we love in fandom. How impossible is that!? Whoever I picked, I knew I would be leaving out huge swaths of fandom! Anyway, what I eventually decided was to organize the layout, very roughly, in terms of the theme Mind, Body and Spirit.

4 basic photomanips behind the cut  )

And here are four icons, which are multi-shareable.

(For most of my icon sets, including the icons I'll be posting on this comm for the next two weeks, I go on a "first come, first served" basis, with icons being claimable by one person only, but I would love for these icons to be used by as many people as possible, in order to promote halfamoon! So if you like them, please take them. Please also feel free to make your own icons from the base manips, if you'd like.)
