[community profile] halfamoon is going live in another month! See you February 1-14, everyone.
[identity profile] anenko.livejournal.com
Welcome to the [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon challenge 2012. The rules are the same as they have been for the last four years (please see the FAQ/intro post).

We also set up an AO3 collection last year, and it is still available to you (this year, fanartist, vidders, and icon makers can also make use of the archive!) You don't have to post your works to the collection or the AO3 to participate in [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, but if you would like to do so, it's here.

Your mods are also working on a Dreamwidth mirror for [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, although nothing has been finalized.

Happy posting!

Based on the 2011 layout, I've created new promo banners you can use to promote [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon in your own journals and comms!

Welcome to the [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon challenge 2011. The rules are the same as they have been for the last three years (please see the FAQ/intro post), and once again we have new headers by the talented and generous [livejournal.com profile] taraljc.

We also have an AO3 collection this time around. You don't have to post your works to the collection or the AO3 to participate in [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon, but if you would like to do so, it's here.

Happy posting!

I know that you've been waiting for this. . .

Welcome to the 2011 [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon challenge! If you're new to the community, or wish to refresh your memory, I'll give a quick introduction to the challenge:

Half a Moon is a fourteen day challenge celebrating female characters in fandom, which will run from February 1 through Valentine's Day. Fanfiction, vids, recs, art, picspam, icons, meta, fanmixes, and outside links to content fitting the theme of this community are all welcome--the only rule is that the primary focus must be on a female character or characters. (You can find more at our FAQ/intro post).

ETA: New as of this year, [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon also has an AO3 collection. It is not necessary to post your works to the collection or the AO3, but if such a thing interests you, it's there for you to take advantage of!

A note on the promo banners and LJ header:

It was pointed out to me this morning that the graphics lacked the awesome Asian ladies, so I've revised the Science Officers to include Torchwood's Toshiko Sato.

However, Photobucket appears to have cached the old versions of the images. Because I didn't want to break links for folks who have been using the promo graphics to help promote the comm and the fest, I've tried to keep the file names the same.

So until I can sort out the Photobucket issue, here are updated links to the new banners:

science officers
vertical banner
large banner

I apologise for the confusion, and hopefully I'll get this issue resolved shortly!

You can post large responses (or links to large responses) to the comm following the guidelines in the profile, but since we have so many prompts, I'd like to collect as many responses as possible in a single post. I'm dividing the posts up by medium so that graphics, video, etc. are in separate posts from text.

So, post your responses or links to your responses, for any responses not covered by the other posts, in the comments of this post.

In the subject line, include:

For (the requester), Medium, Fandom, Title or Prompt Summary.

Characters, rating, and warnings are optional, but I do recommend that you host large or non-work-safe responses in your own journal and just provide a link in the comments, to make things easier on the people browsing.

Submitting prompts
First, a change in procedure:

From now on, please submit prompts via this form.

If you submitted a prompt in the comments of the Impromptuthon Guidelines post, you don't have to do anything; I am updating the spreadsheet with them.

Prompt index
The prompt index is here. To sort by a particular column, click on its name. To filter to a particular match (for example, your username or a fandom), select the item from the Filter box.

Prompt responses
Post or view prompt responses in the following places:

Text responses (Fiction, meta, and other text)

Graphical responses (Art/graphics, icons, picspams, etc.)

Audiovisual responses (Fan mixes and music videos)

Other (Any other responses)

What is it?
It's a prompt challenge with an extremely close deadline and extremely short minimum requirements. People post prompts for artwork, comics, icons, fanmixes, fiction, meta, picspams, vids, or anything else they desire in the comments of this post, and interested people can provide them in the comm starting February 1.

So what are these extremely short requirements?
15 seconds for vids. 100 words for anything written. 1 panel for comics. I have no idea how to quantify artwork, but I hope you get the idea.

Can I do something longer?
Absolutely.

Can I request something longer?
Yes, but with the understanding that you may get short responses.

What subjects can I request?
Basically, anything where the primary focus is any female character in any fandom. The comm intro post has more details.

When can I post prompts?
You can post prompts between right now and midnight in your time zone on February 13.

When can I post prompt responses?
Any time between February 1 and February 14.

Where do I post my response to a prompt?
Post or view prompt responses in the following places:

Where do I post prompts?
Please use this form. (If you posted a prompt earlier, don't worry; I am still catching up on entering them.)

Where do I find prompts?
You can see the prompts here. (Note: I am still entering prompts from the comments.)

What are the requirements for prompts?
At minimum, fandom, character, medium, and a prompt idea or phrase, which can be as vague or as detailed as you want.

Ex.:

  • Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Cameron, fanfiction, Why does she say yes?
  • The Middleman, Wendy/Lacey ff, vid, "Song title here (if I had one I would make the vid)"
  • The Muppet Show, Miss Piggy/Kermit m/f, icon, Miss Piggy hugging Kermit
  • A Little Princess, Becky, fic, What sort of stories does Becky learn to tell?
  • Omkara, Indu and Dolly, friendship or f/f, fic, cooking

Once again, [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon will be open this year from February 1st through February 14th, 2010.

Half a Moon is a fourteen day challenge celebrating female characters in fandom. Fanfiction, vids, recs, art, picspam, icons, meta, fanmixes, and outside links to content fitting the theme of this community are all welcome--the only rule is that the primary focus must be on a female character or characters. Please see the intro post for more information.

We're also doing something a little different this year to generate more content, and that is having a prompt post (which [livejournal.com profile] thuviaptarth has offered to run). Claiming a prompt is completely optional, and the post will be open for people to leave and claim prompts starting this week (links to be added here as they go up).

As always, please feel free to crosspost this announcement and to promote [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon in your own journal or other appropriate communities.

I'm thrilled to see how many entries we've already received! You guys are all awesome. ♥

If you'd like a tag for a particular fandom or female character added, drop us a note here. If there's a correction you'd like made to an existing tag, we'd be more than happy to fix the problem (for instance, some character tags include first and last names; others go by only one).

One of your mods will be along as soon as possible to make any necessary adjustments.
